Well they seemed to have confirmed no backwards compatibility with ps1/2/3 unless this is added later right now does not exist which makes me sad... Sadly the SSD isn't 1TB, 828gb is odd, wondering if that is including the normal compression, or without cause otherwise it will be close to 750gb useable. hoping they let us have an internal increase like they often do, like a 1.6TB ssd.

Though it was semi mentioned that in theory game sizes could be smaller due to compression and not duplicating files. So that could be intersting.

Unsure about the audio, not sure how they can make sure everyone gets good audio, so have to see how they do this.

Powerwise got worried about the 36 CUs but cause they are clocked so high it is still going to be fairly beefy system, they sadly just left some questions open. including what it looks like, and what the cooling solution is. Or even how backwards compat is going to work and if there will be improvements to run older games on the ps5.

Edit: Also is this pure 8 cores, or 16 cores with 8/16 smt cause that was never confirmed either

More technical info than anyone asked for yet no price or even showing what it looks like?

Consoles have always been great 'deals for the buck' if they're speaking of floats operations, which they obviously most likely are, with 10.3 TFLOPS they would end up on par with RTX2080.

I have no idea how much they will sell it for, but if for <600$ you can get a full gaming system including that much performance, it's a no brainer, there's only ultra high end PC which will still makes sense - or just games that require a mouse and keyboard?

Maybe it's 1TB but a part of it is reserved for the system?

Well, I need, playing shooters on consoles is lame and graphics on radeon vii is much better. PC and consoles are two different non-interchangeable platforms. I have and will have both, though between ps4 and xbox I choose ps4, and I think I will choose ps5 as well.

It's possible? was never made clear, thogh 130gb reserved for system seems like quite a bit to be honest. guess we will have to see once it comes out or if they release further information later down the line. Either way I think 1tb might be a good minimum, since games are only getting larger. ( have to see if this compression Kraken stops games getting bigger and instead smaller mind you)

Both these systems look like being a seriously impressive jump from the previous generation. It looks like the "PC users where gaming ability is required" market is about to take a very significant hit. AMD, Intel and Nvidia etc seriously need to rethink component pricing to try to offset this.

Game sizes should actually come down because games had a lot of duplication going on simply because of they way the old mechanical drives heads worked to reach and read drive data, but ssd drives remove the need for such duplication.

In case you've forgotten where you are, this is a website for tech enthusiasts.
And the price hasn't been revealed yet.

how many have NOT been happy with PS/2/3/4?
and it will leave a "noticeable" hole in xmas gift funds\ for most, but if im willing to spend almost half a grand,
i wont change my mind just because it has x "less" than they expected, or because the xb has "more"...

you have the funds or not, you play the games (coming out) or not, same way it was with the last 4.

backwards compatibility is fine for ppl that have a broken unit, (but like many others i always sold my games with the console),
but only as long as its not "limiting" anything for the newer games.
not willing to spend half a grand on a console only to play "blocky 6 bit games" on a 4K tv, an emulator can do that just fine.

We shall see. SONY would be trying to keep it at $400 range.

For a huge community that most people here have not much clue about is sim racers. And consoles are garbage for that. Consoles still have piss poor mod support, no emulator support etc. Id rather play on a 1080p budget rig then the ps5 or new Xbox. Just having reshade alone is worth more. And the insane amount of games you can go all the way back and play.

Now games are gonna look good for sure on the new consoles, but after year of them out, PC game variants are still gonna be above it.

This is true, but we will have to see if games dont just increase anyway due to higher texture sizes or bigger worlds. In a lovely world i'd like to think we would see games that are a lot smaller but i dont know if this is the case. Also wonder why on PC we dont get an SSD vs HDD option where we could install a smaller game cause its going on an SSD

This sounds great! For me because I expect game developers to better cater towards highly threaded CPUs. Since I am sitting on a 3800x with 16GB of ram I hope a new GPU will land me in a sweet spot later down the line. :)

Game size will increase, 1TB is not enough anymore, if systems come with anything less then 2 TB I will be disapointed, then again it probably gona depend on how much more the propriety drivers are gona cost.

Food for thought Nioh on PS4 with all content is like 55 gb, Nioh on PC with all addons is like 75 gb. so if game have alot redundant data why is so much bigger on PC side, unless nioh actual had higher quality texture then console did which it does not both are using same textures.

Because of how they choose to use 12 VNAND chips the options for more would have required them to double again to 1.6TB which would have increased cost. This is why they went with this odd config. However can someone explain where they came up with 825GB? 12x64GB is 768GB.

They also said there is a M.2 expansion avalible to augment the SSD that will basicaly have a "whitelist" of usable drives. This is better that the proprietary approach M$ is deploying.
