alrite , so i got a roommate and we share the cable modem connection,
thing is , he do a lots of streaming, most of the times he opens 4-5 window at the same time. i knew when he's doing it when i got a tremendous high ping while playing css. so i was wondering if there is a way for me to absorb
much more bandwidth from the modem rather than his ? or to reduce much more bandwidht that he's taking ?
any comment will be greatly appreciated.

You could ask him to use DU Super Controler. It is a program used for limiting bandwidth to other programs / the whole computer. Only downside is it isn't free and can only be controlled from the computer it is being used on. Good luck :)

Maybe u should use a router with qos. Then all you have to do is to give priority to your computer and u will never lag again.

Apart from completly destroying his computer or talking him out of it I don't see a free way of doing that

asking the person isnt gonna do much except stop the fun.

you need some throttling or more bandwith.

they have software that throttles and they have routers that throttle.

    Hmmm

Ok i see your problem. I had a similar one last year when i was at UNI.

    Basicly what it was ............
Stupid Pikey **** ******* ******* next door paid me £5 a month to use my wireless internet. After telling him to fu** off and keep his £5 beacuse he was DL Movies off Torrent. But still he kept using my damm wireless and i couldnt be asked to change the wep key. So i went down staires and smacked him in the mouth and said "Use my damm bandwith again and ill come down here and knock seven shades of **** out of you you damm faggot noob ****!"

I hope this little story has inspired you to do the right thing. :chainsaw:

I havnt thought about this in awhile myself. Even though I do when someone on my network does to me. I never rlly solved the problem but I heard you should limit you MTU to about 500 or something. For it equally gives out bandwidth. Or just take your router and give priority to yourself lol.

Ping his IP with huge packets of data. That should slow his network card down a bit.

A: Seconded on the QoS packet routing for routers, works a charm. Learn to setup your router.

B: Schedule time where he streams movies and you play on CS:S, less CS:S can only be good for you and your social life.

C: Disregard the person above me because he is a moron, since this generally doesn't work all that well and is more trouble than it's worth.

    D: Stop playing CS:S

E: Get a new flat mate.

You have your options, now pick. QoS would be my favoured selection.

If you have a router that is supported by ddwrt or a firmware similar I would suggest you put one of those firmwares on it and then set up Qos. I had to do that on a friends router to slow down torrent downloads. There is also an option to limit the upload and download speed on the wan port to decrease pings.

I'm reporting you for being a moron who childishly pings users in a naive attempt at slowing down their network adapter. Derp.

You get the same treatment that I give others, maybe it is not me who should change, but you. Deal with it.

I think just talking to him would be a good option, or just compromise. Maybe you could play CS when he's not using his comp.
