So i just log into my bios and check on my gpu and it says it's running at 8x speed and shouldn't it be at 16x?

No sli configuration here and i'm running the gpu off the 2nd slot.

I'm just confused why is it at 8x and not 16x.

Read the manual. It clearly says that the first slot is 16x and the second is only 8x

    Really?

I thought 8x was only when in sli mode?

In single VGA mode it says use the first slot because it is the only one that is 16x

Press the ? in GPUz and start the Render Test, see if the x8 changes to x16

I know, it says x16 for both slots unless you have two GPUs

    Where?

The render test is a small video type window with swirling colours

I'm pretty sure if you put it in the top PCIe it will run at x16. Just put it in the top and see what it does

Then there's a problem. The other guy mentioned the 2nd slot only runs at x8 now who is correct.

Just put it in the first slot. Easiest way to test unless there is a reason you are not using the first slot, like an obstruction from other hardware or the case

First, you won't really see a difference in performance as long as it's PCIe 3.0 with your 970.
Second, maybe there's a BIOS setting that lets you manage lane configuration. But putting the card into the first slot usually puts it to x16 anyway.

I had the same a while back. The end of the story was the card was not 100% seated correctly.
