direct2drive also has a new application which scans all your pc for games etc.. and then "offers" you to play those game online with "friends"... yeah, yahoo is also connecting emails into one account for "security reasons".. i just dont know what else they will come up with
Even though they don't say it in the EULA, who's to say they still don't do it if you're so concerned . Stop using closed source software then if you're so afraid of people scanning your system of what apps/OS/drivers/hardware you use. Even Microsoft is known to have Windows to send this data back to themselves whenever you use Windows anyways. deltatux
My question is "why should I go through all this to play a game?" It doesnt make any sense. I love Battlefield and cant wait for it but I wont let anything scan my PC for a game.
This is not true at all. http://store.steampowered.com/news/4086/ Steam doesn't do it without your permission. There is no excuse for this bollocks. I hope it is boycotted but I feel sorry for DICE and others forced to use it. I'm also gutted that I can't play BF3 without it. Let's kick up a massive fuss and show them we're mad as Hell and we're not gonna take it anymore!
I wish they'd chosen better choices. I'm ****ing sad, I have been looking forward to getting hold of BF3, but this just really puts me off, once again. EA, Get a grip. :bang:
Like Steams Opt-in i think you'll find that Origin's will also just be anonymous OS/Applications data gathered. I've done that Steam opt-in thing about 3 times over the years, and what? Why would you care? Doesn't bother me in the slightest. Its only the same thing that Windows does, how else do you think the OS can tell if you change to much hardware?
1) Unlike Steam's, it's not opt in. You have no choice. 2) You may not care but surely you can understand why people do? It's a blatant disregard for our privacy and done very sneakily for profit. They make the user agreement convoluted, vague and/or so long you couldn't read it all or make sense of it. 3) Just because other companies do it, that makes it okay? No.
I'm not saying i like it, far from it. I'm just saying i ain't gonna lose any sleep over it. Just give me a valid reason as to why it bothers people.
I really dont like the idea of my whole hard drive being scanned for a damn game so that EA can get more profit. Still debating on whether to get it or not. Lets see how the community responds to this and see if EA want to remove it or not.
After you have your game installed, you don't have to have Origin running anyway. No biggie. I bought Crysis 2 off Origin and I can play it independent of it. It doesn't run in the background while I'm playing like Steam does.
With gritted teeth, they sent someone round to get it! I wouldnt mind if they could be trusted, but they quite simply cant by even the remotest stretch of my imagination. I dont fill in they yearly form that the council sends (cant think of its name) because they do sell that on via the backdoor, the options to not share data dont apply to all uses they make of your data!
yeah, you and the 4 other people go sulk in your corner of the internet while freaking millions will be on BF3 come release. These internet boycotts are pointless and stupid...MW2 Steam boycott list, remember that one?
So I should either just sit back and let these bastards **** me over, or not play a game I've been looking forward to for years. Great ideas guys! Love your spirit. You are all EA's bitch.
well just look at it like this. EA may bone you in the a$$ with their service, but consider bf3 their perverbial reacharound
So if Origin gets hacked, seeing as how it's relatively new and lately a lot of online websites including Sony's digital websites have been compromised, you don't think people don't want to risk EA holding our information such as saved passwords on our browser and such? EA's not gonna do anything with that, they don't care, but they will become a target if they hold a lot of valuable information. Web security is weak atm.
