ok here's what happened: i have 2 partitions C and D and i used to dual boot C had windows XP on it D has windows Vista on it i went into command prompt and formatted C so that I could delete the partition and just keep vista after reboot i kept getting a "bootmgr is missing" error i tried recovery console with the startup recovery but no luck i tried bcdedit and bootrec commands from the recovery console but again no luck "I fixed the part below by setting C to active using diskpart but still getting bootmgr error" i used diskpart from recovery console and deleted partition c now i dont even get the error, the computer boots straight from the dvd i can still see the contents of c (empty) and d (vista stuff) if i do "dir d:" in the recovery console i just want to boot back into vista... what can i do?? help guys PLEASE!!
run the vista cd and run the repair function to repair the bootmgr http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html
thats what i tried and it said it could not repair... under details it said boot manager is missing or corrupt the commands from the command prompt did not help either
Run a Windows Repair installation then would be the next step more aless a full reinstall without whiping everything
