K, so what operating system guarantees crossfire support for my 2x1gb 4870's. Should i go with Vista 64, or back to XP again. I don't understand why its so difficult to enable crossfire, I have had nothing but trouble, in fact, what the #%%@! was I thinking buying a second card anyways....maybe i should just return it....

Anyways....any ideas which operating system I should go with for optimal Crossfire support and stability....I did find that when i had 2x3870's, after fighting with CCC for CF support I finally found this forum, and installed ATT, instant CF support with no need to install 1 card at a time and wait to install the bridge until the final reboot after forcing the install of the second card.....

    Hi Ray
An old event came back and may be an indication for other symptoms like sometimes ATT stops without any notification or entry in the evenlog of Windows XP. The icons quietly disappear form the system tray, and there are no more ATT effects noticeable like fan control, AA, AF etc. It may well be a source for other lock-ups but I don't know since there is a hard shutdown required. I did all kinds of stability tests but they show no issue. I have no overclocking on this machine (CPU/Memory/GPU/GPUmemory).

This is the case on my Sapphire HD3850 512Mb and it happened before with an older than the current driver (ATI 9.1). You found nothing out of the ordinary in the system spec of my card back then. Now I have more data, back then only the GPU clocks.

ATT shows, data from ATT monitoring graphs, desktop (bad, bug?)
    clocks GPU 1723.76, Memory 53.97
GPU t -1.00, FAN duty cycle 100.00% (is audible)
CPU usage 1.56, GPU activity 200.00%
uses one of my two CPU cores 100% (windows task manager shows 50% in processes window at ATT)

In the system tray it shows "-1" for temperature and the above mentioned clocks in the tool tip.

    ATT shows (good, normal, desktop)
clocks GPU 296.00, Memory 828.00 (idle clocks)
GPU t 57.00, FAN duty cycle 45.19% (is noticable not 100%)
CPU usage 0.00, GPU activity 0.53%

Please let me know if you need any additional information. I realy want to keep ATT. I run without CCC with ATI Tray Tools 1.6.9.1382.

(I have screen shots but don't know how to attach them)

    Hi Ray,

finally i can use ATT with seven x64....:D:D:D

i try in several way to make it load at startup, but nothing...
anyway thanks to low level installation & running like adsministrator i've forced it to not run at startup...

now i only have to load it before playing.:D:D:D

    best regards

This may seem like an obvious question, but I have to ask. Have you connected the little bridge for crossfire?

I really really hope your kidding.....I wish i was that stupid.....then I would have working cards.....Nah man i think its because they are disimilar revisions of the same card.....the MSI has 1 analog/1 dvi, the asus has Dual Dvi....other than that and the bios.....identical cards...either way i'm returning the MSI card and they are giving me another Asus Dark Knight for crossfire.....that should do it, otherwise I'll prob just slit my wrists....

Its better for you to have identical boards. Who knows what they done in drivers to support CF :)

    ________

2 ElfjeTwaalfje - Thats really strange problem/bug or whatever. Its very hard to find cure because it happens under unknown circumstances and at unknown time.

2 Caronte83 - Hmm. Never has this problem when testing ATT in W7, but my W7 has TESTMODE ON and UAC turned completely off (as always).

    Thanks!
Overclocking works like a charm, now, with correct values. ;)

    Hey guys,

I installed Windows 7 7077 today on my main machine, and ATT seems to run just fine. One issue I see though is, that I cannot start CPU-Z while running ATT. When I close ATT CPU-Z starts and runs just fine, with ATT running, I cannot start cpu-z at all.

    Can anybody confirm this?

Try to put .exe file from GPU-Z into exception list in ATT AutoOverclocking window

2 fellix - That's good. what about monitoring? Temps, FAN and so on?

    Monitoring is all fine!
As for the fan controls - I can't say anything, because I'm not using the reference cooler.

There is one small issue with the startup process, though -- ATT won't apply/activate any settings at OS startup, including OC profiles, so I have to re-launch it manually afterward.

Ray, I was talking about "C"PU-Z not GPU ;-) Thanks for your hint anyway, I'll give it a try. Hope that works. But is this a Win7 issue? Since I don't remember having that problem on XP before. I am not sure though when the last time was, that I used CPU-Z and ATT together ....

    thanks ray

Edit: I added cpu-z to the auto overclocking exception list as u advised ray, and that did the trick :) cpu-z now starts just fine. thanks again.

You must tell ATT to do this :) Look in overclocking window for "Load at startup" checkbox.

    May be. Who knows? :)

As I wrote ATT reprograms sensor table in Auto mode and set fixed speed in manual mode. Modern ATI boards has 3 methods. Last one doesn't supported in ATT

    Hi Ryan,

I was trying the new beta and I have checked monitoring, fan, temps and all working like a charm.

One question, I have seen an option for 0.93 volts, I have tried it and underclok mems to 240 mhz and now my temps are 10ยบ C lower.
The strange thing is mems are at 237.5 mhz, not 240. Tried to put them at 240 but it always show them at 237.5.

Edit: Another thing is max mem clock allowed is 1000, not 1200.

Choose 'Use overclock limits' in General Options-Advanced, and set OC limit to something like 30% and downclock to like 80%. You can of course set any percentage you like.

I also get the 1000 memory limit when using no limits.

What is proper procedure when updating Catalyst drivers.....

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any input on what steps are required to simply update your graphics drivers, when u have ATI tray tools installed as well. Do i have to run driver cleaner every time and unistall att every time. I also use rivatuner to monitor temps(on G15, i wish ATT had this) Do i need to uninstall that every time too. I'm running Vista 64 bit and ATT and no CCC.
