I'm a bit surprised how little of a difference there was. Granted, the latency was adjusted, and Intel traditionally hasn't had as drastic of a performance impact when upgrading RAM, but I still would have expected more.

Predict even with the cheapest DDR5, X3D will rule the top benchmarks.... Just like its 5800X3D brother!

these are not cpu intensive tests at all, this is just a normal gpu location dropped to 720p. A 5700G doesn't get 270 fps when a game is cpu heavy, nor will it come within 9% of a tuned 13900K.

There is way more of a difference depending on the application(some don't scale with bandwidth)

    Two problems with this review.

    1. Only using a 3090. In the game reviews, most titles are GPU bound.
A 4090 would actually be bottle-necked for most titles and that's where faster memory(frequency and latency) starts to show bigger gains.

    2. 7200 isn't that fast, especially for an XMP setup. XMP profiles are much slower than tuned setups. But I get that reviewers don't want to do that or know how to.

We already have people running almost 9000MT/s DDR5 on Apex boards. For more 'normal' setups, up to 8000MT/s is possible.

In my own personal experience, 8000MT/s plus tuned timings(+tertiaries) shows a lot of performance gains on a 4090.

the problem isn't the 3090, it's testing locations. They aren't cpu limited at all.
how else would a 12400 beat 7900x in one game or almost match a 12900K in the other. Only anvil next 2.0 shows some difference, but I still suspect it's the built in benchmark/gpu location not a real in-game cpu heavy location when even a 5700G gets 100fps.
just dropping resolution down doesn't represent a real world cpu heavy scenario, one has to be found in the game.

The review is correct on the performance of memory. Amazing how many people think memory helps in PC gaming. The review did not tune the ram but If you tune DDR5 8000Mt or Tune DDR4 4000 with a RTX 4090 on normal PC gaming settings there is no real difference in FPS 99.9% of games.

Would be better to review more CPU bound games or apps like emulators, older DX9, openGL, such as Civilization,ARMA, Sims or etc... and it should be with the fastest GPU or add 720p benchmarks again.

Actually, should do RAM scaling on RTX titles. It seems anything with RTX or RTRT has a much higher CPU on top of GPU.

Most games are GPU limited yes, but many of the newer ones are becoming more and more CPU limited thanks to things like ray tracing which loads the CPU with BVH calculations, as well as higher levels of simulation. You see this in games like CBP 2077, Spider-Man etcetera where memory bandwidth can boost performance quite a bit when the game isn't limited by the GPU.

720p is a pointless test, at that point why not make it 480p just to stress the CPU, but most people getting PC's these days are moving to 1440p/4k. 1080p still has its day but its quickly on its way out the door, but nobody does 720p especially on a 600 dollar cpu with a 400 dollar ram

Spiderman even sees big increase when using 12900k with ddr5 vs ddr4.

The point isn't to simulate real gaming by testing at realistic resolutions. The point is to load the CPU as much as possible. Ideally you want to test in CPU bound games or areas and dial up the settings that will affect CPU performance, ie draw distance, ray tracing, crowd density, physics etcetera while lowering the resolution.

the choice of location is everything for a cpu limited gaming test. dropping down resolution without finding one is just a lazy way to show there is no difference.
I think everyone agrees not every location stressed the cpu the same.
If this is true, one needs to find the most cpu heavy one, or at least one that stands out from others. Without it we have people claiming that ram speed doesn't matter. I don't blame them though, they're being misled by reviews.

I know someone who actually buys the PC Gear and do test on the PC Gear.I know the truth and the people who actually mislead people.
