Ignorance is not a defense to speeding in any US jurisdiction I know of. Stop ricing out your car. Wear your goddamn seatbelt
I think it's ok depending on good straight dry road, with light traffic, and taking into consideration driver experience etc.. I used to be a long haul trucker in the USA. During the night, we often ran across Nevada,Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nebraska and Wyoming, in convoys of 10-20 trucks, all doing about 80-85mph. (approx 130km/h). 122mph on a bike with your son is plain stupid though.
that IS over the top considering a theif who steals a car and gos on the run driving on the wrong side of the road etc uninsured blah blah will probably get 3 months jail and banned for 3 years. Watch road wars!!! its unbelievable how people who are legit, but do something silly get raped against the wall. The born bred criminals get it lighter when it comes down to sentencing FACT!!! also what about that portugese driver, wiped out a family of 5/6 and only got 3 years, thats 6months each person he KILLED. Didnt get done for dangerous driving!!! HOW ON EARTH?
You are obviously somewhat of a moron so maybe posting this pointless but here we go. You should be wearing a seatbelt especially if you were going 47mph. I can't believe in this day and age people still don't wear seatbelts. About the underglow well you're just asking for cops to pull you over looking like a ricer. So regardless of whether it is legal or not it's a stupid idea because it's only going to attract the wrong sort of attention. Now the speeding. 19inch wheels are not going to offset your speedo so much as that you are doing 47 when your speedo says 35. You obviously knew that would cause some issues (Not to that degree but yes it can cause maybe 1mph difference) so you should have gone under the limit to compensate. Stop crying out like the victim because you are clearly not the victim.
I'm pretty shocked by this question. I mean, it's a no-brainer to me. Don't speed. It's unnecessary. I think I'd only advocate substantial speeding in extreme "emergency" situations (maybe your wife is about to give birth, family/friend critically injured, etc.). I speed minimally, only 5-7 MPH over the speed limit at any time. When I drive with friends/family, I stick even closer to the speed limit. I'm not endangering their lives with any of my own stupidity. In residential areas, I have sped when I was angry, and it was a mistake (especially since I live where deer appear frequently). It's something I work at to not do, and have been successful at avoiding. I have not gotten a ticket, been pulled over, or gotten in an accident. Worst thing I've done is inadvertently blocked in some angry German guy at a library parking lot during a 4th of July fireworks thing in my town - but the crowds and chaos were ridiculous - LOTS of people had to deal with stuff like that anyways. In snow, I find myself driving 10-20 MPH on 35 MPH roads. Snow is NOT something to mess with - I've seen far too many snow accidents, and lost control, without warning, due to icy/snowy roads (even when going as slow as 5 MPH - my car doesn't have ABS - damn Honda for not putting that stuff in until two years after my car - 2004 Honda Civic). I've hydroplaned at very low speeds as well (partially due to worn out treads). That stuff is terrifying. I'm afraid of death, and don't want to kill anyone unless it's in self-defense (or if they deserve it, like Osama and friends, Hitler, etc.). Speeding in snow and rain is just flat out stupid. And to the dumbass complaining about getting a ticket for speeding without a seatbelt - I hope you have your license taken away soon - GTFO of the roads - that kind of stupid behavior endangers others, NOT just you. IMO, being late and alive to any place is better than being dead, injured, or having endangered other people. - PR-0927
I cant recall who it was that said this but i heard that in some countries perhaps even the UK you can be dismissed from alot of penalty points on your license when driving under the influence of alcohol. E.G. Say you were speeding and you hit a person whilst drunk the sentence wont be as severe as if you had the same accident if you were sober beacuse your under the influence of alcohol. Im not sure if this is true but someone at college was telling me this im gonna google it. :3eyes:
Actually it can offset more than most ppl think.I have 16" rims (stock Mercury)it is a 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis. They came with really high profile tires.I opted to buy low profile tires for it when I needed new ones,as the sidewalls are stiffer meaning you get better handling and a more comfortable ride.By doing that I lost a total 2 1/2" in the height of my tires. That in turn related to my speedometer reading roughly 5 MPH slower than what I am actually going. Now in his case getting 19" rims means depending on the profile of his tires he would gain height, which would equal his speedometer reading more than what he was actually going.Which means his speedometer actually read higher than 47 MPH.He knew he was speeding well over the limit. He may have even argued with the LEO saying,"I was 54MPH not 47 MPH!".
It shouldnt really matter what his tyres or wheels were, the speed detection was taken off the officers speed detection device, so if he was doing 47 with skateboard size wheels or penny fathing size wheels it will still be 47. Not only that, but (as you stated) HE changed the size of his wheels and tyres, so it is upto HIM to make sure the speedo is reading correctly. It would be the same if he said that his speedo wasnt working at all, he would still have no defence.
Not sure how it works where you are, but if the speedo is that far off here, I'm pretty sure your car isn't road legal and I think the law have the power to stop you driving it there and then. So in that respect count yourself lucky ...not to mention that you didn't get involved in an accident. Wear a seatbelt, you know it makes sense!
i guage my speed by the road conditions if its dry and im on my bike i will do any thing from 5-30mph over speed limit on open contry roads that is in towns and such its about 20-25mph because i can filter down sides of cars no problem but in the rain i stick to the limit and slower because the back tire on bikes tend to drift all over the shot in the wet but thats just me. my mums the worst she did 130mph down olster bypas on her bike and i have never been faster than 100mph on motor way but that was the flow (m6 toll) i agree with speeding but only when ure in the right conditions and ure comfortable with what you are driving or riding and fully awake i dont a gree with speeding in town thogh
Get some freaking winter tires. And keep good tires on you car all year round. These are the only thing keeping your car on the ground. All-season tires are ****ing worthless. My *****n RSIs are safe at a hell of a lot more than 10-20 mph. And don't be scared of snow, that is going to make things worse, not better. Respect the snow. (And going too slow is going to cause an accident when some speeding jackass rear-ends you). It is likely both Audi Club and BMWCCA have snow driving training in you area. They don't care what car you drive. Do it.
Well, it's up to my parents - we share the car, and they are stubborn about all-weather **** tires. Also, I believe in our area, for the majority of the year, snow tires are illegal. We don't want to have to cycle them through repeatedly (we get a LOT of snow in northeast Ohio). Oh, and I fear snow mostly 'cause I hate it. I can't stand cold weather, and snow is ****ing annoying. It gets in the way and ****s with your life. I could go on for hours about how much I hate the stuff. Oh, and a friend of mine with a pickup truck has the same issues, unless he turns on his 4WD (which still doesn't correct the situations enough). Another friend has a Jeep Wrangler and also skids out of control in snow, even when driving slow. The accident rates are ridiculous when snow comes around, and roads are blocked for hours on end. A train recently derailed in my town in part due to the snow, LOL. I know quite a bit of people who crashed in snow as well, driving at speeds from 25-45 MPH in 35 MPH zones. - PR-0927
Honestly, if you have 4WD and you're still skidding all the time then there's something wrong with your driving style. Once you drive an old plymouth caravan with nearly bald tires and no ABS through deep snow you appreciate just how lucky you are when you're driving any other car. When I turn on 4WD I can pretty much only get it to skid if I actually try. I love driving in snow, nothing compares to the feeling a a perfectly controlled 4WD drift. But I hate stopping because stopping times are always different, and sometimes I can't even stop going downhill and I'll end up running stop signs.
Yeah, I assumed he was smart enough to use correct profiles to minimise difference in speedo accuracy. Probably a big mistake on my part considering the poster lol.
Studded snow tires may be illegal. Regular traction snow tires are legal everywhere. You put them on in Novemberish and take them off in March or April. It is, quite frankly, dangerious to drive in snow on no-season (seriously, they suck). Just stay off the roads entirely when there is stuff on the ground. They're risking those of us with properly equipped cars. Why are they out of control? Because thier cars aren't properly equiped and/or they don't know how to drive in the snow. Not all sliding is all that bad (though it should be avoided on public roads) if it is under control. (Also, part-time 4x4 sucks in snow at speed) Seriously, it sounds like you need some extra driver's education. Again, Quattro club or BMWCCA have a number of events (thier summer events are good too to learn other car control) designed to do this and they don't care what you drive. Ice and snow is ****ing fun when you know what you're doing.
