Mine vary from day to day. For the most part it's Les and Victor Wooten. Others are Brian Ritchie of the Violent Femmes and Stanley Clark. My favorite bass line is Dexter Redding's Awakening covered live by Les Claypool in the midle of Tommy the Cat on the Rhinoplasty album.

All time favorite bass work for me, goes to John Paul Jones on The Lemon song. However, I cannot say I have a "favourite" bassist. Too many have done amazing work within different genres. I'd range from Justin Chancellor-Tool, to Louiche Mayorga - Suicidal Tendencies first album, to Sean Yseault from White Zombie, to Tom Araya - Slayer, to Claypool, etc.. . On another note, my greatest influence and probably my top would be Bootsy Collins. Funk transcends all boundaries and is universal.

Ok not bass, but top of my list is Waddy Wachtel whenever he toured with Stevie Nicks.

Speaking of Tool, you ever hear any of Justin's work in his previous band, Peach? One thing I find interesting in that tool covered one of their songs after he was in the band.

No, but thanks for the tip, dude! I'll check it out. Cool beans! I haven't seen mentioned Don Was or the dude from Sublime...Eric Wilson. Victor Damiani from Cake is also pretty much a badass. His work in Cakes popular song The Distance gives me energy and chills each time I hear the song. He's all around a great "jazzy" player.
