I've mixed ale with lager for years now.. want input from UK ppl, germans, anyone with beer culture.

Why I mix? Bishops Finger Ale is too strong for my belly... but I fancy the blend of ale and strong lager.

Never tried that before, but it's peaked my interests. I'll have to give it a try!

I have not considered mixing an ale with a lager, but it doesn't sound all that appealing to me.

If teh beer is a genuine black one, it shouldn't be mixed with anything! Why would you want to spoil the taste?

Only ever mixed Smithwicks with a Guinness head, its a rare thing though, generally mixing beers( in the 1 pint glass :) ) is horrible

Mixing beers? No way that's pure sacrilege! There is of course snake bite which is mixing beer with cider but this sounds just wrong to me also (and doesn't taste that nice either).

    Sure is!

Same with having Scotch anything other than neat.

There is a guy who go's to the bottle shop near me and buys Johnny Walker Blue ($200AU a bottle) and gets some coke from the fridge as well! I mean SERIOUSLY. WHO DOES THAT. Makes me want to punch him in the face.

    Snakey Bs lol...

I don't tend to mix though. I'll go from ales to lagers in one night no problem, don't tend to mix them though.

Not to be grammar douche, but it's piqued, not peaked. Sorry, just that it's the second time I've seen that word misused in the two threads I've scrolled through on G3D today.

    :D

Actually, it is a grammatical error. It's a homophone error, and an increasingly common one. Wasn't trying to be a dick and I don't normally correct people on junk like their/there/they're because everyone knows the difference. Some people just don't know the word piqued. I was trying to be respectful as possible and helpful, not trying to make Steve look like a putz. Sorry again, Steve. Carry on.

To the discussion: I don't understand why you'd need to mix two different beers together to achieve a desired result. Without a doubt, the right brew is probably sitting at your local liquor retailer. You just might not have found it yet. Beers run the entire gamut between over-hopped IPAs and chewy stouts. You could take up homebrewing to achieve the desired result, as one possible solution. It's cheap, easy and allows you to copy and tweak existing brew recipes or to conjure up your own from scratch. I've been really happy with the results I've had so far.

Just drink a Stella Artois (blond beer 5.2%) or Chimay Blue (dark beer 9%) and you don't need to mix anything.

Belgium, the only thing that's good about it is beer, chocolate and fries!
