I wonder how long it will take until we can buy games like Doom3 online and download them legally via P2P or another filesharing client.

When a few free time programmers can write P2P software that is powerful enough for the entire world to have D3 days before it's release, then how good/fast/high quality could it be if it were legal and supported by powerful servers.
And all the money we customers and they game producers would save.. no more % to publishers, no more rent cost for a shelf in the shop, no more salary for a shopkeeper standing around 8 hours a day, waiting until somebody demands to buy a game.
And, no more pollution to the environment from many hundred thousands of CDs per game.

Just had to let that out.

Wicky- Read some about HL2 and STEAM. Valve is offering the option to download HL2 from STEAM before its release date.

Tell you guys the truth...gameplay is ALRIGHT. It's not all that good. The only thing is, the graphics. That's the only reason that keeps me playing...Maybe some multiplayer add-on would be better...

what else is there.. its a shooter.... nothing that revolutionary... except the engine which is very nice...
I love the game got mine on Saturday from best buy and its very scary and very pretty.. but its still a shooter... all this power and imagination and we still are dealing with 3 cookie cutter types of games... Shooter, RTS, MMORPG... and pretty much all of them are the same within thier catagories.. not one really original idea in the bunch... why cant the kind of depth and imagination that goes into books and movies be used for a game =P Instead peeps seem to just copy each other over and over... using each others best ideas and relabeling it there own idea..

It really isn't as great as I thought it was gonna be...

Just a decent game to sell an awesome game engine. :/

Hopefully we'll see some more original games with the engine in the future.

personally, i think its a great game. (how dare you compare it to unreal 2! :p at least no one has mentioned diakatana.... :X )
anyways, yes, the graphics are amazing. the story itself is nothing majorly deep, tho it is MUCH better than many other fps's in my opinion. it always leaves you wanting to figure out whats going on.

couple things that definately make this stand out are how your never really pulled out of the game other than for level loads. the seamless cutcenes and PDA usage, and other object usage are top notch.

what i think really helps immerse you in this game its just the graphics. its teh sound. i really think people playing on stereo or 2.1 speakers are not getting the entire picture of the game. the surround sound really helps to immerse you. that and the good use of shadows (tho some say its overkill). people have to remember that at the heart, this is DOOM we're talkin about, not some grand epic star wars game. take if for what its worth, buy some extra underware, and have fun with this gem of a game. just cause its not 100% perfect for all of you doesnt mean its still not one HELL of an optimized, beautiful, polished work of art and programming.

I agree ,got DooM3 today ,simply could not wait until 16th ,when I am gettin it through amazon ,the wait was finally over and so far I am loving the game ,its everything that I wanted and more ,the sound is really really top notch ,I agree with Roccer completely, game scares the crap outta me at times ,the gameplay ,however did not quite reach of what I hoped for ,although easily beating the likes of Far Cry , I am afraid to say that HL2 *may* get a few more points than DooM3 gameplay wise ,I am yet still to complete the game ,so you never know ,I maybe wrong.

Played an hour so thru and am farely impressed with the gfx altho i pls chronicle of riddick a couple of months previous to this and it kinda spoiled doom as the gfx are on par with each other apart from the obvious higher res and model blending.

GamePlay is the usual corridor seen it all before rubbish, guns are wank, same old pistol flashlight shot gun, machine gun combo.

Enemy Ai is pretty good the marines chase u about and sometimes take cover.

Its a good game and Ill play thru to the end as theres enough to keep you coming back everything is slick and easy to use such as the pda opening doors using security keys etc, its just theres nothing new to it, seen it all before over and over.

Just from the hl2 trailer with the striders i can safely put my money on me enjoying hl2 more.

Hopefully Doom will surprise me later down the line with some massive monsters, squads of marines instead of 1 or 2 littered about but so far its as i expected hyped up to much so that it it slightly disappoints.

Still a great game and definately worth buying and playing thru, just feels abit same old same old.

Any1 not on XP, 2k3 or 2000 theres is apprently a fix out to ger it running on the unsupported systems.
