I noticed a question about it, let me explain.

When a user is massive or clearly violating the rules of the forum we usually either temporary ban or permanenly ban that user.

Thet system is old and not the most flexible one, not for the staff but certainly not the user in question as he or she is blocked out 100% from the forums.

We now have three levels that can be issued. A yellow and red card which results in restricted access to the forums without the ability to post anything. And the last one of course the normal ban.

A red card is followed by the yellow one, it basically is the final warning. After these two warnings you are out of here.

Yellow card (7 day timeout, no ability to post):
User can login to the forums and can see all sections and all posts. Yet he can't do anything, not even a search is allowed. After 7 days his/her account is reset back to normal

Red Card (7 day timeout with severe restricted access):
Same principle applies yet more serious, the user can access only the 5 important technology forums instead of everything, no feedback section, no pub, nothing. Also no post options.

The red card is the final warning, cross the line once more and the user in question is banned from the forums and file-section.

This doesn't mean though that we won't issue permanent bans immediately once massive abusive behaviour is shown.

This system gives the user in question time to cool off and think a little about what he/she did while party still being involved in the forums. The system is somewhat more soft and not so hard yet strict as you can't post anymore.

I hope this is a more subtle way for a user to learn the values we set and need to be respected here at Guru3D.com

Suffice to say that for now this is an experiment.

is there going to be a way for all users to see if a user has been warned, ex: a Yellow sign near their titel (maha Guru, etc) or is it for Mod/Admin only viewing?

Personaly, i like it, i think it will keep users from leaveing and it will help keep the forums cleaner.

Great idea but what about PM's? the users could whine about the decision? (like in soccer)

I think users can still use P.M. with yelow card, i dont know it but i supose it.
Maybe with red card they cant.

  7. i think this is a wonderful idea. i just hope this is adhered to. i thought the 'threads will no longer be closed unless asked by thread starter but you are responsible to psuedo-mod your own thread' idea was good too but that one doesn't seem to apply anymore.

Shouldn't it be like: Yellow -----> Red not Red -------->Yellow?

Actually, it is yellow--->red. Just read Hilbert's post again carefully...

Actually he's right, I think Hilbert misworded it.

Hilbert wrote "A red card is followed by the yellow one, it basically is the final warning. After these two warnings you are out of here."

It should've been "A red card is follows the yellow one, it basically is the final warning. After these two warnings you are out of here."

Yea... he did. But I think he corrected himself on the next line when he said that in that specific order...

    They are the same thing.

Followed by a yellow card, meaning after, follows a red card, also meaning after, both are exactly the same ;)

Remember that Hilbert is Dutch, English might not be his native tounge! Technically the sentence should read: -

"A red card follows a yellow one, which is basically a final warning. After these two warnings, you are out of here!" :)
