I have an Acer laptop with an Xpress1100 chipset. My problem is that Acer only ever does one driver release and ATi does not seem to officially support this chipset. So how the heck do I install the latest drivers?

Alas that does not solve my problem, the xpress 1100 is not supported in that package.

You may want to try installing the drivers via the device manager and select the Xpress 1150 from the list. The 1150 is simply a higher clocked 1100 so you shouldn't have any problems.

It still says no ATi device found, there must be something custom about the damn acer drivers.

Yea I tried that, windows still refuses to install the driver saying that it is incompatible with my hardware.

An option is to install the Omega set:
    http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Currently omegas latest modded driver is Cat 6.9.
That's better than nothing and it will install. :)

Doesn't work either I get the same error. I tried taking the INF file from the acer drivers and using it for the newer cats, but even then windows can't install says missing files. I guess I will just have to wait and see if acer releases and new driver.

    the omega drivers does work...
    at least for me.
    and you're right,
the standard catalyst drivers does _not_ work.
    Which omegas are you trying?!
    I'm running 3.8.291 (Catalyst 6.9)
However, it does not recognize x1100,
instead, it appears as Xpress 200M..
oh well, as long as it works right? =)

I tried the latest on the site, it didn't work. Also I think the Omega don't include the IGP or southbridge driver but I could be wrong.

It recognised it as the X200 because the X1100 IS the X200, they just renamed it for some reason.

So the Omega drivers work fine, they're what I use.

I think it is lousy support on the ATi side. I mean its BS to release a product that is only going to be supported by OEM drivers.

While it lets me install the latest omega drivers, when my laptop reboots, windows comes up in a non-widescreen resolution (black bars on my either side of my screen) and after a few seconds the screen just goes pitch black.. I don't see any compatibility issues with the newest drivers and the xpress 1100, but i could be missing something.

Only the drivers off of the Acer site are working for me.. bumping this thread for all of us poor xpress 1100 users out there!

Acer is your only option, and will mostly likely be thanks to crappy support from ATi. I emailed their tech support and got no response.
