So I once again wanted to try Vista since I got my new card in. CoD4 and CoD: waw play flawless on XP but in Vista they don't run anywhere near XP performance. I've done tweaks to vista and everything I could think of but it runs like **** compared to XP.

I know my system isn't the best but I wouldn't think the games would take that much of a hit on Vista. Is it that DX10 is that much more powerful or is that Vista isn't that good for gaming?

The graphics look the same on both OS's, at least I think they do. It is just the performance is sub-par in Vista.

    Ideas?

Not sure how your having problems. Make sure you do the typical, update vista, new drivers or different drivers. I have had vista for almost a year now with no issues at all.

hmm, with that system you should be flying. since your system is more powerful than mine(GTX 280 > 9600GT SLi)

probably something wrong with the install. all chipset drivers installed, ect?

I'm using Vista Ultimate X64 sp1. All drivers are installed, chipsets, etc etc. I'm also using Nvidia driver 180.43. This is a fresh install also. Dual boot with xp.

I guess I could try older driver versions.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Vista Ultimate has quite a bit of business-class bloat that gamers simply have no use for. Home Premium is the ideal option for a dedicated gaming or multimedia machine. Also, leave Superfetch and the Indexing Service on (If you've already disabled them, turn them back on). They work together nicely.

well first thing COD4 is DX9, so you wont see any difrence in the way the game looks.
maybe try only using 4gigs of ram, my AMD PC does some odd stuff with more then 4gigs with vista, the PC in my specs works great with 4/6/8gigs so its worth a try.

AMD does odd things with 4Gb of RAM in Vista? What are you talking about?

I am running 4Gb with a S939 X2 4200+ on Vista Business x64 with zero problems and I haven't heard any of my buddies on similar setups having issues with Vista + AMD + 4Gb RAM.

There is something wrong but what I don't know. I can tell you I got rid of my dual boot with XP. Vista has been running faster then XP for me since SP1 and never was more than a few frames slower prior to that. I could never understand all the hate.

Well I think I found what I did wrong. Inside the game I had antialiasing on as well as antialiasing inside the nvidia control panel. I turned in game antialiasing off and it runs sweet.
