Agreed lol.... doesn't make sense, they'd be retards to do a move like this, we're the same stupid for believing it.
Well, its been put up on the AMD twitter feed, and they havn't debunked it https://twitter.com/hashtag/AMD300?src=hash
If I were a part of AMD's marketing team I would just put my notice in right now. This is going to get ugly.
There was that one thread that stated that AMD has a surprise about the 300 series. If the surprise was that they are literally just rebrands, that is not a surprise. This circus has gone from being totally new gpus, no rebranding at all to the whole series being a complete rebranding. Yes, there are some rebrands but is Grenada literally just a new name slapped on to Hawaii to just give the appearance of it being somewhat new? If this ends up being complete fubar what hope is there fore Zen's launch? Fubar, then AMD is gone well before that 2020 prediction.
If Fury is nothing amazing, I agree I really hope Fury is amazing Without AMD, NVIDIA have no competition, we all suffer
No they don't, without them, they would have no reason to show off new tech, they would have no reason to create better more powerful cards, they could charge what they liked (monopoly) As insignificant as AMD may seem to NVIDIA, they are a key part of their business atm, without them.... well.. imagine a world with only one government AMD are extremely important to US, to keep NVIDIA in check
As of now there is no competition with gm204 and gm200 being released unchallenged so far, unless you want to count old cards.
I don't mean spec for spec, but business in general, if AMD sank, we'd all feel it AMD keep NVIDIA on their toes, and keep pricing competitive
Like has been written by much more knowledgeable individuals, AMD is making it very difficult to stay optimistic about this launch. Have never purchased an Nvidia card before; instead bought the disaster known as the 2900XT. That was the worst $500 spent for a gpu. Will not do it again. Do not want to have to brush up on mythology; desiring to stay red. Green is my daughter's favorite color though.
Problem for AMD the way I see it is that it's a 2Vs1 scenario where they have less cash than either or the competitors. This means unless they manage some crazy feat of engineering they'll never be top. Intel can scupper them easily in the cpu market should they wish and the same for Nvidia, I can't see how you could possibly be better than both of these giants without a miracle of a product. I loved AMD and ATI back in the day but the buyout was the worst thing for both parties and us as enthusiasts. We need a new gpu only force to take on Nvidia again :/
I hope Fury is their secret weapon, but if it's not, I wonder why they keep rebranding series after series, losing money from people wanting to upgrade, who see no point in buying the same GPU with a new name Why don't they make new GPUs and sell them instead? It's almost as if they want to go bust
AMD's spends ~$242M a quarter on R&D for their entire company. Nvidia spends ~$339M. I'm also willing to bit a larger % of that cut goes towards Nvidia's GPU's. AMD probably spends a good chunk on their CPU division.
Yea, I think it's a money issue, NVIDIA have way more to 'convince' optimisation, but it's catch 22, can't see how it can get any better for AMD they way it's going atm unless someone invests billions
^ you funny extraordinary once AMD fan now bash at anything they do 390X is not 100% 290X, yes it has the same base, but they fixed chip power efficiency and its thermals, it Will be faster 10-15% for sure or more if they add extra compression. From what I saw GCN 1.x is already at its "top", not much to change there unless they've added that new compression and other mini tweaks like full dx12_1 (Tier3). For example Nvidia chips went through 3 generations so its fully dx12 capable (fermi - almost none, kepler - basic, maxwell - "full").
