Hello there, For a long while now, I have been trying to figure out what's up with my 5970. In games, appears to be DX10 and below, I get this weird and extremely annoying graphical error. In some games you barely notice it, in some it's unplayable (In DX9 and DX10 this seems to be hit and miss, but any game under that that I've tried are filled with this ****.) Picture of the error: http://i56.tinypic.com/15pk9bp.jpg It used to appear in WoW, until I enabled DX11. It also does not happen in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which I am quite sure is DX11? Also, if it's of any use, it does not happen in Minecraft. It happens in games with and without CrossFire support. I am 100% sure my card is not overheating (happens at ~40c). I do not remember this happening as the card was new, if I recall correctly it pretty much got worse with time. I know for a fact it did with WoW, as it went from suddenly some weird buggy graphics to completely unplayable in some zones quite fast. It was mainly in the Outlands areas, and on some specific models. It didn't happen with just anything. In Counter-Strike Source it happens with gun models. Have anyone else seen this? Can't find anything similar on google. Is there anything I can do to fix this or should I look into getting it replaced? -Thanks, Andeby
I've had that happen before, changing drivers seemed to cure the problem, also try switching dvi outputs on your card.
Had this on every different driver since I got the card, also got two monitors that get switched around every time I plug them out. Happens on both monitors. Although I have yet to try only 1 monitor. Oh, and nearly bricking my card updating vbios to get manual fan control and possibly get it fixed did nothing as well. :<
as a last resort before giving up on the card, try reformatting, sometimes the old drivers just refuse to be deleted. it's worth a try at least you'll know for sure if it's the card or not. one more thing if you have 2 pcie slots try the card in the other slot.
If my memory serves me right it did continue through a format or two, bit hard to tell since my memory is kinda bad. I'll try switching to the other PCIE slot if I can fit it.
Sorry for double-post, but could it be something with DirectX? Considering it only happens in DX10 and below. Never seen it in a DX11 game.
Sorry for tripleposting now, but if someone else has this problem and stumbles upon this thread, I would like to report my success with fixing this by upping the GPU voltage of my card to 1.1V with the XFX OverVolt tool!
I've had that happen a few times with different cards over the years, it's always been software related, either a video player or some random program or old drivers, have you checked for updates for your motherboard? the reason I remember this so well is because it was a major pita to track down, and my symptoms were exactly like yours. like spikes shooting from the inner center screen to the outer edges. it wouldn't hurt to download the latest DX redist: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d be sure to get the redist, the online utility wont update older DX files. here's a link to a similar issue maybe it can help:http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=338277
