1-depends on the game and the way you play (fast or slow). 2- as sunspot mentioned play a support role or an assassin (hide, sneak, snipe). 3- yes if you are just playing for fun ,but if you are one of those obsessed with k/d ratio and all that nonsense then do not bother lol
I wouldn't ever use gamepad for online fps or rts gaming but it's down to your own preferences. Gamepad is good to have for driving & 3rd person action games . In your case, I would propably get hard mousepad for the mouse so it would be usable when in couch and wireless kb+mouse. To answer your 3 part questions: 1. I would propably miss lot of shots(AT4) in BFBC2 unless it was close quarters combat. Maybe with practice it would be possible but I like gaming with kb+mouse too much to try it out. 2. If your controller is supported practice a lot and use aim assist if available or not. 3. The Chronicles of Riddick was fun with xbox360 controller and some other where there is 3rd person mechanics and are littler slower paced. Newer tried any online fps games. Usually I try gamepad in single player fps games that have horrible mouse lag or some crazy mouse smoothing going on to see if its more enjoyable with gamepad.
Yeap...i am also playing Duke Nuke, Alice maddness, DeusDX, and Dungeon siege, all with the native 360 joypad support and all work perfectly.
ah so true i finished Dungeon Siege 3 with gamepad too. and was playing DUKE NUKEM with it too..but bored with game some FPS S R GOOD with gamepad. game is optimized for it too. interestingly fcking MASS EFFECT series doesnt have native support for gamepads..so rude.
i tell u , they say CONSOLES r killing PC gaming i tell u, PCs r kiiling CONSOLE gaming too..:nerd: i want my native gaepad supprot to all games..
Most of the games I play on a gamepad are usually 3rd person like Assassins Creed, The Witcher 2, Prince of Persia, some driving games and jet games etc... but for solid FPS I tend to use kb+mouse but as a gamer (both pc & console) I used to play COD on the 360 and have experience with the gamepad playing cod for months and got really good at it too. Last year when I played black ops I wasn't used to kb+mouse so I played on the controller a lot an believe it or not I was drop shotting people like crazy, when I went back to kb+mouse my accuracy did go up a lot but the response time of my drop shots was a little slower but that depends on your gamestyle. I played with a relatively high sensitivity and would flick the joystick really fast so you can get fairly good with a gamepad if you're in a kb+mouse environment but you have to constantly work at it as people that are twitch gamers tend to be faster with speed. Most of the time in a console environment there is an added auto-aim that helps with the controller but in a pc environment you dont have that so you actually have to have precise accuracy with you thumbs but to gain advantage its usually on your playstyle. With the controller you have access to some of your buttons closer than if you have a kb+mouse but really its all about practice. I have always been a pc gamer but I did play console for a good 2~ years but that was mainly for mw2/gow. But like I said I used to have a different playstyle when it came to the controller so when I did play blackops to on the pc I converted back to kb+mouse primarily for the higher accuracy. There are some games that are more forgiving on the controller such as Duke Nukem, Borderlands, Fallout, but they tend to be ported games and usually has natural support for gamepads. I think you can play decently with a gamepad but more casually than competitively, not saying you cant play it competitively but you tend to have to use more effort than if you played with a kb+mouse. If it was a singleplayer then its usually fine but when it comes down to fps games (cod/bf) its usually the one with the fastest response/higher accuracy.
Lots of helpful responses guys, thank you! I think I'll try to get better as much as possible with the controller and try to adjust the sensitivity with a 3rd party software. Overall I'm certain that the M+KB combo is much better for competitive MP games but I play for fun and not for K/D ratio. Anywayyyy, I've heard that the new Counter Strike game is going to be cross platform with the PC and PS3, how do you think PS3 players will perform against the PC gamers?? I'm really interested to know!
Zach_, the thing u talk about , cross platform, turns this debate to an endless troll magnet . how? K/M combination will defeat GAMEPAD on multiplayer. so they will start to say about it and bla bla bla
i believe couterstrike will suport mouse and keyboard on the ps3. not sure how thats gonna work, if i where to get it on the ps3 id prefer to use my ps3 controller and most of us would since we dont have the layout setup to have a keyboard and mouse in front of the tv. probably the game will have that console AIM help that centers ur aim when near a target, that would make it quite challenging for M+KB users on the pc against gamepad users.
1. Do you feel that you can perform well with a controller in Multiplayer games on the PC such as COD, BFBC2 etc against M+KB players after practice? - No. You get absolutely destroyed 2. Do you have any advice on how to get the most out of your controller on FPS games? - Paint it in camo patterns! 3. Most important of all, are you having fun when using a controller to play FPS games on PC? - No. The 360 pc controller is great for some RPG games and definitely driving games, but not FPS games.
I think it depends alot on the game, I dont really mind playing Fallout 3 on my 42 inch tv with a game pad on the pc, because you dont really need to aim much with VATS, but for games like BC2, killing floor or even, Quake, I feel that M+K is way superior, I want to get a good wireless keyboard and mouse and made my self a custom table for sitting at the couch and play with K+M.
I really enjoyed Dirt2 and Dirt3 on X360 controller, since i dont have a racing wheel the controller was easier than keyboard arrows. But for FPS its alot easier for me on M+K but I played a few games on 360 controller like Section 8 and Crysis 2. Funny thing is with M+K Im ususally on a winning streak then I change to 360 controller and I start dying. Takes time to get used to.
I can't imagine trying to compete with a controller. I will say that it has it's place, but that isn't in a competitive FPS.
