6670 is not a rebrand of 5670, 6670 is using the Turks core, which has more stream processors than the 5670 and a little faster...
Apparently, people forget that a gaming console doesn't have to be powerful like a modern PC to create great visuals.
Considering the 2005 hacked version of the 2xxx series that the Xbox currently has can keep pace fairly well with modern titles, this thing will blow EVERYTHING out of the water. Remember, they'll be coding direct to metal on a console, so can code to the strengths of the GPU. Sure, by PC standards, the 6670 might not seem that powerful, but in pure graphics rendering terms, its actually quite a powerful chip - it just cannot reach its potential in a PC. Games through that chip on a console will look every bit as good as high end games currently on a PC. Easily.
Very disappointing and still almost 2 years till launch.. And if the consoles lifespan will be as long as current Xbox 360....
These are unfortunately how many people on hardware enthusiast forums fail to remember that gaming consoles are meant to be an easy, cost effective gaming platforms that provide PC-like gaming experiences. These systems aren't meant to be on par with what computers are able to output. Those who want better graphics do get a gaming PC with better GPU and most people don't care for the best graphics possible as long as the game is fun and the graphics are acceptable. deltatux
thats kinda the point i was trying to make just look at the 360 and the hardware it has it still looks good and its 7 years old now i cant wait to pick up a 720 i mainly use my 360 for racing and 3rd person games and i use my comp for 1st person and mmo's
Doesn't matter if its weak, all we are interested in, is its version of Dx, not what gfx card, CPU etc... its based on, just a shame that by the time its hits, we'll be using Dx25 cards
Wait what? 20% better performance than Wii U? I dun think so. HD48xx wins against HD6670, unless its heavily clocked, like VERY heavily clocked. So the Wii U is going to be based on a much more powerful GPU but without DX11 support, and the xbox gets a DX11 GPU but without any considerable ammount of power. Great, just great for the friggin ports that will be coming to PC. Expect no DX11 support because Wii U hardware doesnt supports it and expect crap graphics cuz Xbox's GPU is way outdated. The only thing we need is that Sony PR team started to explain that they went into a different direction with the PS4 and they'll be having a less expensive and weaker CPU to close the circle. At least Xbox 360 and PS3 hardware was very powerful when it was released...
No it wasn't. Sure, it was 'based' on latest architecture, but hugely stripped down versions of G70 and 2xxx. They would never be cooled if they used 'very powerful' hardware of the time. Think you need to learn the benefits of having single, closed hardware environment to develop on.
Xbox had a 3 core CPU, very nice tech at the moment. Not even mentioning Cell. PS3 GPU was kinda crap (more or less, like a 8600GT) but that was fast for 2006. And Xbox was even more powerful, halfway to the unified shader model wich was teh shizzle at the moment (xbox was launched in 2005, when the ATi X18xx and Ge Force 78xx were all kinds of new stuff). And you need to learn three words: Multi platform titles. Not so many benefits now right? Besides the obvious answer to that in the PC side of things, damn APIs, making games on PC was never easier.
Yep, Xbox CPU was pretty powerful, but the PS3 had nothing like the 8600gt lol it was based of a cut down G70. 8600gt wasn't even out in 2006. You need to learn another 2 words - console ports. No title is truly 'multi platform'. Its developed on one, and ported to the others. Its dev platform gives a huge boost to performace, and porting to another console is not as bad as its still only 1 group of hardware to ensure compatibility with. If you could have a title developed direct to metal for say, 2600k, 7970 and 8gb ram - the devs would have more power than they'd know what to do with.
Why are people surprised with this? We all know that the hardware inside the consoles can´t be too powerfull because of physical (heat) and financial (cost of the parts) constraints. Also after the success of the Wii, MS and Sony aren´t going to produce expensive consoles when they know lower priced consoles will fare just as good and will provide bigger margins for them. Still, I must say i was hoping they would put something like an 6850 on the next console... Oh well, looks like PC gamers will have to get used to ****ty ports for the near future...
Don't believe this for a second, on paper this would actually make it slower than the Wii-U which is out in several months, even 20% is too close considering it's over a year after Nintendo, who Microsoft don't even consider as a rival after calling the Wii-U last gen. It also seems illogical considering the 360 had a 2006 mid range PC GPU in 2005, but running at lower clocks, to now decide in 2013 to use a 2010 low spec PC GPU, surely AMD could offer them something much better considering the money they will make from Microsoft.
