OK i just brought this new wireless router from net gear that has a DSL modem built inside & wireless router all in one.my questions is will it be better to run my ps3 & xbox 360 wireless or through a Ethernet cables instead ? i have full signal strength at a 100% but I'm not sure if a Ethernet cable well be more stable are will wireless be better ? my roommate was using a Ethernet cable from his ps3 & xbox 360 to our old net gear router

Cable is always faster and more stable than wireless, but I dnot know if the speed difference between wireless and cable will really effect a Console much, I dont know how much data they transfer

But as a rule cable is faster and less chance of losing connection imo

ethernet is 1 billion times better. Also the wifi in the PS3 is total $hit.

Well i can have 2 PC's and 2 laptops all working off my wifi 100% fine, if nothing else is on except the PS3 it still fails 100% on all in game updates and firmware updates where theres no bloody continue or download in the background as per demo downloads. Also online gaming fails on a regular basis with nothing else using the wifi or broadband connection.

nah, if you google PS3 wifi issues theres thousands of pages, some folk sent their PS3 back but had the same issue when they got a new one lol.

Dont get me wrong, if i was to do it right id just ethernet connect it, but im renting and dont want to be spending money on something now when i might have/need a different setup when i buy a house. So im only moaning about it( cos it does drive me absolutely insane sometimes downloading Firmware updates on the PC etc. never got to update GT5 prologue since i got it lol )

Cat5 and Cat6 is the cable types. Cat6 is more isolated than cat5 but normal user just need cat 5 rj45 network cable. 802.11 is the wifi technology naming.

My wifi on the PS3 is the same speed than a cable connection. I'm kinda proud that it works so well. Downloads are about 800kbs/s, as much as I get with a cable.

BUT I'm on b mode. g mode wasn't working well.

It depends on if you have a preference for cabled or wireless on the PC.

If your happy with wireless gaming on the PC, then you will be fine on the PS3 or 360.

I stick to wired myself though as wireless is just too slow.

That should be fine, even though im not keen on all in one modems, but if the wires don't bother you, i would keep it wired for gaming, especially on the PS3 as it can be temperamental at times, browsing downloading demos etc.. wireless should be fine.

Also depends on how fast your net is, some people cax max their connection with wireless, so its only stability gained by a wire.
