Well as a guide, I had both an X800XT and an X800XTPE before this GTO2. Neither scored more than 6.4k in 05, that was with frequencies resembling ummm.. 540/580 or so.

Not bad for a card less than half the price of yours huh ? :)

I fully intend to buy a Sapphire X800GTO2 soon but the price seems to be going up,…they are typically around $247 OEM to about $269 retail. When I first started looking it was about $219 OEM,….

Anyway, some of the latest reviews of the X1800XL seem to indicate that it is about on par with the X850XT PE (when SM 3.0 isn’t an issue). The X850XT PE cost less then the X1800XL for the time being. However, the X800GTO2 is a quasi X850XT PE (or faster) and at a fraction of the price.

So with the X800GTO2 you don’t get AVIVO or SM 3.0 (and maybe a few other things) but you save roughly $200 or more and basically get the same performance as an X1800XL!!!

Yeah, I’ve got to get one of these,…and an Athlon 64 X2 3800+,….so I can OC them both silly

I'm really tempted to try one of these... Perhaps if I fry my X800 Pro I'll go mad from a lack of CS:S and force myself into it...

Yes... That's it... Fry card... Go mad... Buy a GTO2... Makes perfect sense.

LOL, sounds pretty sane to me!!!

But seriously, why not just flee-bay,….er,….um,…e-bay that X800 Pro to help support the cause!?!

    BTW, I just ordered a Sapphire X800GTO2 and an Athlon X2 3800+,….;)

You mean make a bootable CD?

    Couldn't really be any simpler.

Yeah I would like to know too if you don’t mind since I have a Sapphire X800GTO2 on the way and not a clue as to how to boot into DOS.

I have an OEM version of “nero” so I can only hope that you don’t need the full version.

You can do this in “nero express” right?

    Crosses fingers,….

Do the above, and during that create bootable CD wizard, select the files you downloaded from the techpowerup guide (unzip the flashrom zip) and place the three flashrom files as well as the modded BIOS on the CD.

Then, set your BIOS boot order so CDROM is #1. Place the disc in the drive. Restart and it'll load from it. Then follow the instructions on the techpowerup guide as to the commands to flash. Printing the guide out would be advisable.

    Outstanding thank you very much!!!

However, how do you save the BIOS that the card came with before the flash mod?

Sorry if I am asking too many n00b questions but naturally I want to get this right and not pooch the deal;)

On the techpowerup site you can actually download the unmodified original BIOS. The link is in the guide. Have you read that properly yet? :3eyes:
So you could put the original BIOS on the CD as well if you like. You should rename the BIOS files to something shortened and memorable as the file name will be truncated to 8 characters in DOS. You could call the original BIOS 'gto212' and the modified 16 pipe BIOS 'gto216.'

In ATI Tool it says my GTO2 has 16 active pipelines. Do I even need to do this mod?

Turns out Rivatuner also says im at 16x1.. that's strange. The store owner told me it was already modded but I didn't believe him.

    Seems fine for your clocks.

Here's proof that +30MHz on the mem does basically jack....

Thats a very nice score almost as good as a 7800GT which costs twice as much, the x800GTO is a killer deal. :D

I've never known misreading of pipelines to occur, and also, your card gets pretty much the same score as my old XT & XTPE did when overclocked to roughly the same frequencies. Of course, they both had 16 pipes too.
