I have a feeling it will. My 6800 was a good card with no problems. My x800xt is a better card, with no problems also.
Welll my x800 XL runs pretty smoothly, but I bet it can be alot better then it is currently, and thats why I think the chipset is the problem here. I have a intel 865G chipset, I never bothered to update the drivers untill I saw an update in this thread, and I thought maybe it could help the performance out a bit. So I installed it, my chipset is supported with the new driver. I restarted my computer and tried out battlefield 2. MAN my card was running like a radeon 9200! the gameplay was so jaggie! i had 10 fps even when looking at a wall lol. Luckly i did not disable system restore on this installation of windows. So I restored my computer back to before I installled the chipset drivers, back to my old 1, and now everything runs pretty playable again around, 30-35 fps with the resolution at 1032x968 or somthing I dont remember, and all quality settings at med, aa at x6, but I still think 30-35 fps is pretty oddly low with those settings with a card like this! So I think the problem is with the chipset [edit] dont mind the nvidia avatar you see to your left
^ I'm looking at grabbing a PNY Verto 6800U from a guru on here.. hopefully that will solve my issue :|
Sweet as man, mine's a XFX 6800GT also (although now flashed with a Nvidia reference Ultra bios). Seems to be a nice card with decent overclocking potential with a VGA Silencer fitted. Will prolly do 400/1100 even without extra cooling though, but id deffo recommend getting a Silencer (or equivalent) for long term use at those speeds.
Lookin good marv! I had an XFX card I got from tiger direct b4 and it served me well for a couple years.. really hoping that you see some improvement man. I ended up grabbing the PNY card I was talkin about. PNY Verto 6800 Ultra AGP 256mb Apparently the user changed the heatsink to a copper one, as the one that came with it originally had brass or some sh*t. Interested to see how it will perform.. I saw the benchmarks and he was hitting just under 6k with it in 2005.. but obviously, if this thread has taught us anything, It's all about the gameplay.
Brother, you just need a fresh install of windows...with all the latest drivers for your mobo/video card. Should be just fine. And btw...those drivers are old. Uninstall 'em, and use these from Nvidia website. These are the latest. http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_78.01.html
Good luck, lets hope it sorts the issues you were having out. A clean reinstall is generally best when swapping brands, although saying that, im sitting here swapping my ATI and Nvidia cards in and out every other week on the same install. When you get it settled in for a while, overclocking steadily towards Ultra speeds is the order of the day if you feel you need the boost. Again, good luck.
Whatever you do, dont take 3D Mark 2005 as respective of in game performance in comparison to the X800XL. The X Series always tend to do better then the 6 Series in 3D Mark. Games can be a different kettle of fish.
