I just ordered myself a Xeon X5650 Six Core for $69 usd off ebay. Cant wait for it to get here and oc the piss out of it.

Gonna drop my i7 950 in my server. I also have Xeon W3520(i7 920) equivalent.
From everything I have read, and spent countless days researching my board would work with X5650 is that only newer chips, 3770k,4770k, etc are only gonna really beat it single core threaded situation. And I dont ever hit a single thread bottleneck in games. 99% of what I do is gaming anyways.

Well Sata 2 only goes so far....Even in SSD! To get around that, that's where the PCIE part comes in!

Or get a Sata 3 controller for a pcie slot. :D

Well, just dropped the X5670 in and straight up to 4.2Ghz with HT on, I suspect I could get 4.4 if I switched off HT.

Temperatures are about 15 degrees cooler compared to the 950.

    So far so good

    Now to get the GTX970....

Nice one, best bang for buck! Should last a while for gaming.
