Hi guys, my 6800GT died on me and right now I am not yet prepared to upgrade my system. Both cards would be upgrade over my old 6800Gt...which would u recommend? Taking into account that I am using a 22'screen and looking to play at higher resolutions.(TW med 2 and WOW) The Sapphire X2600XT(88€/59GBP) or The Sapphire X1950GT (123€/83gbp) Would the my system be to much of a baottleneck when i use the 1950GT?
I doubt it.But ofcourse with faster cpu you generate higher numbers, and a demanding game wants both. But the difference between the 2 cards in performance is small. So if you're on a budget go for 2600xt,otherwise the 1950gt is slightly faster in most games, but not that much.
OK people ,lets straighten some stuff up! 2600XT is as fast as the 6800GT. You would not see any significant improvement. X1950GT kills 2600XT in every game/benchmark. It is at least 40% faster. But your CPU will bottleneck X1950GT. And Mr.flow needs to read more hardware related reviews. Thank You.
Seriously, upgrade ur CPU before Video card with the game of today, you better have Intel C2D or AMD Athlon 64 x2\ Future B3 Phenom.
No thanks for that Mr. dude.Better lighten up a bit.And relax. As for my comments,I used THIS link for comparrison. And with that in mind I wasn't far off. Ow,and I did recommended the x1950gt,didn't I Mr UG_PL ? Thank you.
Cool. But why,ohh why 3Dmark !!!!! It proves nothing... Here are some scores from Tomshardware.com : X1950GT vs HD2900XT Battlefield 2142 : 1280x1024 ,Max quality ,AAx4,AFx8 31FPS vs 17FPS Dark Messiah of Might and Magic : 1280x1024 ,Max quality ,AAx4,AFx8 34FPS vs 20FPS Prey : 1280x1024 ,Max quality ,AAx4,AFx8 35FPS vs 23FPS Prey : 1600x1200 ,Max quality ,AAx4,AFx8 27FPS vs 17FPS you see now ,huh?
in the case that you have a limited budget, it would be EXTREMELY FOOLISH of you to upgrade your CPU first, instead of your GPU. Because you can't play all the latest games with a Q6700 coupled with a 7100GS, now can you? And don't give me the crap that you can't play Crysis with a P4 + 8800GT, because the fact is, you can. You'll just lose out (about 20% performance decrease in comparison to a 8800GT + Q6700). So if you only have enough to upgrade one component, just go with the X1950GT.
thanks mates. I want to see about the warranty situation with my old 6800Gt from sparkle. Extremely fishy. there. Just 1 year warranty and it seems sparkle has just rebranded a bunch of lesser quality boards. Alas i am out of warranty..teh seller will see if they can sell me stuff against a sharp discount. Maybe use that discount to buy PCI-E based setup. Yes was thinking of combo C2 6750, P35 mobo(asus) and either teh 8800Gt or the 3850. But thanks for the info mates. Will try and get a hand on teh 1950 GT.
Yep I'm running it on an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0GHz at stock speeds atm and can play pretty much all my games at 1400x1050 maxed out with good framerates most of the time, will be installing my new C2D and Motherboard tomorrow though. Not to mention the X1950GT is probably faster than my X1950 Pro.
Pro > GT, the Gt is meerly an underclocked Pro. So why not overclock the GT to pro levels? You'll be fine on that p4, just avoid 3dmark and see if you cant some exra Mhz out of it ideally.
