    £470!!! That's 697€! In Finland X1800XT costs "only" 586€...

Must... keep... wallet... in... pocket !

A new video card would finish this PC off nicely. Don't get me wrong, my GTO2 is fast, and I've only had it a month or so, but the X1800 XT is faster and I can hear it calling "Buy me Wild. Buy meeeee!!"

The £470 didn't bother me as i wasn't paying that anyway as my mate was buying my old card, so i was only paying about £320, but in the end i got one from MicroDirect for only £370, so ive only really paid £220.

Figured out the Fear settings.cfg to change the res, im now playing it in my native 1280x1024, and its awesome. :D

@WildStyle, i bet that wallet of yours is straining at the leash, "let me out", "let me out", and the XT's saying to you "buy me" "buy me". :D

the best bang for your buck would have to be the x1800xt, its $170 cheaper than the gtx 512 and will overclock much more, plus it has better IQ hands down, just ordered one from newegg, cant wait to get this baby

Eh... While I'm impressed by the GTX 512MB, I'm interested to hear how much overclocking headroom it has. Unless nVidia's been polishing their fab machines with holy water, there's no way their getting consistant yields that can hit those speeds with at least 60-80Mhz of room left for overclocking. If they are... Well... Wow... Heh... :D

X1800 XT cards steadily dropping to $580 @ NewEgg and X1800 XL cards as low as $369... If ATi can keep the supply up they may yet make a success out of this rather questionable generation. Regardless of price though, it would be nice to see an XT PE able to take on the GTX 512.

Care to back that statement regarding IQ up with any proof? Adaptive AA (ATI) and transparent AA (Nvidia) are very similar, AA while using Open EXR HDR is quite nice (althyough as Valve have proved with Lost Coast) there are ways to get HDR and AA on both ATI and Nvidia hardware. The one thing that is interesting for me is the angle independent anisotropic filtering, which if you remember was implemented way back on the FX series which were slated for poor AF performance more then praised for their high AF quality. We'll have to see how that feature pans out.

Also the 7800GTX 512 doesnt need to overclock as much as the X1800XT since it gets more done per cycle by quite a dramatic amount, eg. at 810MHz core (highest 7800GTX iv seen proof of) it will outperform a 1GHz clocked X1800XT (highest X1800XT iv seen proof of). Difficult to do a head to head comparison though with the different standards of memory, but the 7800GTX 512 has the advantage there with much higher overclocking potential (and therefore performance potential) on the memory side of things.

However, the one point that is not to be sniffed at is price vs performance atm is *firmly* in ATI's favour. People can argue about IQ all day long but its a very subjective topic, performance cannot be argued atm.

Rich guy.... There is a bug with ATI drivers, try renaming FEAR.exe to something else.....

It appears the current ATI drivers are applying optimisations that only shoud have applied to the fear demo and not the full game....

People are seeing increases of 20% doing this!!

I can certainly verify that on my X800, in some cases it more then *doubled* my fps by renaming the exe. You may be able to just disable Catalyst AI to get the same effect mind but iv not tried it yet, my X800 no longer resides in my main rig with FEAR installed on it for the time being.

    Just installed my x1800xt...... Unbelievable!!!

COD2 plays smooth as hell 1280x1024 4xaa 8xaf all on extra all effects on....

IQ is miles in front of my old 6800GT too... I'm impressed, could even be turning into an ATI fanboy.................. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Can you post some screenies highlighting the IQ differences please since you have both cards? Obviously without adaptive AA enabled. Grats on the card lucky bast. :D

I've sold the GT..... LOL sold it to someone who ain't got a clue about pc's with a few extra spare parts and it only cost me £40 for the XT.

The ATI card just seems to be spitting out a sharp image, with vivid colours compared to the GT....

I'm used to the GT cos I had it for 14 months, but there is a noticable difference for the better IMO.

Sweet as man, got a hell of a deal there. :)

If you could post a couple of X1800 screenies anyway I can compare them to my current X800 and 6800 and that will go a long way to help me decide which way to go when it comes to upgrade time. Thanks in advance and much appreciated dude. Again grats on getting a beast of a card. :)

I have seen people on ebay selling XT's for 330 quid which aint to bad considering, if that was the prices in general for XT's then I would honestly say they would be better buys that 7800 gtx 512's.
