Thought we were talking about Music, I don't plan any video in mp3 or iTunes etc.

I never said anything about the system slowing down, I just said Foobar seemed to struggle a bit with large amounts of MP3's. Over 15,000 anyway last time I checked.

I never really cared that they sold out to AOL (although AOL has been involved since the very beginning), as there aren't any other players out that I prefer, as I've tried others, and have always come back to Winamp.

I love Winamp. Only thing I don't like is the AOL BS in the browser. Otherwise I love it,.

It's worth installing for Milkdrop alone imho..

    Foobar is Fubar :D

Yeah iTunes is horrid. From my understanding it converts your mp3's to AAC's. In which this limits your music transferability to 3 times I believe. Sony tried to do the same thing with their walkmans and ATRAC format but people started catching on and everyone wanted drag and drop so sony had to abort.

I'm surprised apples propiatary AAC is still going strong.

I still use winamp because it's quick, light and sounds pretty good in comparison to Windows Media Player which is large and glitchy imho.

I hate aol too but whatever. Not like i paid to use winamp.

I have no love for Apple but I realise I can't speak up for iTunes twice in one thread without being accused of an Apple fanboy - one of my own worst enemies.

However it doesn't force you to convert to AAC and even if you do use the format there's no "transfer limit". AAC isn't a proprietary format, it's standardised hence it works on a shedload of devices. Hence I can plug in my Zune and the entire iTunes library is automatically copied to the device - both purchased music and ripped CDs. Hence my mobile-phone is full of music I dumped on there from my iTunes folder.

If you don't like something then fair enough but disliking something based on hearsay without actually checking things is a bit irrational :bang:

Thanks for the apple lesson. I didn't mean to downplay them. Okay let me rephrase my statement, hopefully correctly this time.

When transferring to an iPod it does in fact keep it as mp3. It simply registeres the Ipod to that system. And now you can only add music from that computer, none other.. Unless you use a different program.. Like winamp. Is that correct?

I've no idea, I hate iPods with a passion. If it helps what you're asking, I have my whole music library organised with iTunes, with one full copy on my PC, one full copy on my netbook, a full copy on my Zune, a selection of about 30% on my phone and a selection of about 10% on my PSP.

How do you convert songs that you already own into AAC? Most of my songs are MP4, from when they still used DRM.

I loveWinamp. I never use it to play video's or films but for music it's unbeatable.

I detest iTunes because I don't trust an anti-competitive, anti-trust, monopolistic company with a mass of brainwashed zombies ;)

Actually, I haven't used iTunes in years, not since Apple were being suspected of spying on customers through rootkit that iTunes installs. Also iTunes is hard to remove, it's like spyware once installed. If you really want power use the Ipod plugin and Winamp. Winamp converts the music I put on my four year old Ipod on the go and I don't ever need to see any AAC files on my PC.

Firstly, you can take your Anti-Apple somewhere else if you're going to be like that, to any brand or product.

As for the rootkit, that was never iTunes, that was Sony.

I like iTunes because it already has all my music categorized and stuff in my iPod. I usually play music minimized so visualizer is no problem to me. And also none of the files in my library are m4a's they are all mp3. iTunes will import CD's as mp3's too.

itunes is ok, it just has a gui i hate, and bog standard sound quality.

WMP has a better GUI, but sound quality is no better.

Foobar has the best sound quality by far when using wasapi, but the gui is very old school.

Winamp is great all round, gui and library are spot on, Milkdrop works best in it, ipod support is better than itunes, and sound quality is very good.

kylzer, the forum play up for you as well there :p
