Would you buy Bose?

Yes an eye opener all right. Anyone with half a brain can see the person that wrote that article has a deep bias against Bose. It is in his words, in his descriptions and in his stance. Bias reviews are nothing but poor journalism. It serves no purpose other then to try to make a company look bad. For all we know the person that wrote that article could be working for a direct competitor. Or it could be an ex Bose employee looking for some sort of revenge. Or it could simply be someone that for some reason hates the company. What he wrote is in direct contradiction to the hundreds if not thousands of positive user reviews on the internet!

Every single online professional review site has an agenda. Very few if any at all tells the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth without some sort of company bias...

I'm no hifi newb but I found that to be an excellent article that told me a few things I wasnt aware of, its more shocking than I thought and I knew it was bad!
The guy is more than reasonable in his approach.
Yes, he very much dislikes Bose, but lists his reasons explicitly and I dont blame him at all, I support what he has written.

Guys who defend Bose, please use this opportunity to learn something.
If you wish to counter the article, please point out what is objectionable.
He has broken down the problems to their basic sources and demonstrated why they are problems.
Let us know which parts are incorrect, then we can establish what you do agree on.

 

Bose items in general seem horribly overpriced for what they offer. They're bad in my eyes because for the same price you can get so much better.

 

They are nice speakers.... Bose speakers sound fantastic.... but GOD are they expensive for such a small package.

No, I would not buy Bose. You can get better sound for less money with other brands.

 

Lol I don't think it is more biased than any article. You are just angry because you own a Bose system and of course will defend it. And now you may have realized that you have made a bad choice (or maybe not the best) in choosing Bose and that angers you. The guy that wrote the article has good knowledge about sound quality products... why not listen? it's always an opinnion, but it's informing, not just criticizing ! I had bad experiences with Bose and hate their prices. I'd rather make my own audio system if I had the money to spare. Anyway, what's not good to some it's a solution to others. It is good to give your oppinion and contribute. And why not, offer other options !

 

He posts (albeit vague) measurements and facts about the drivers. There's only so much a 5.5" driver can do. That's not bias against Bose, that's physics

 

this poll needs a 3rd option, If they were on sale.

What do you know about the reviewer? You said he was this he was that. How do you know that?

What he wrote gave me more information and perspective, that's all. I never hate bose and stll not hating them after reading the review.

You hold 'thousands of positive user reviews' for bose firmly but refused to do the same with 'thousands of positive reviews' for logitech and called it's a crap. Bias? True there are many bad reviews for logitech, but there are bad reviews for bose also. If you say bad reviews for bose are biased, then i can say bad reviews for logitech are also biased.

I'm not defending logitech, I'm not too fond for their speakers also, but many people like them. You called what those people like is a crap, but refused to accept when others called what you like is a crap.

With this kind of attitude this conversation will never end. So I'm off...

First of all you guys were given a firm warning from Rob about trying to instagate fights concering a post I made in a seperate thread that I sincerly aplogized for, not once but a few times! Secondly, what I meant about user reviews is this:

I randonly picked a Logitech model. They have so many models I didn;t know what one to pick just tried one. Notice how many bad reviews there are out of the 40. I counted at least 15 poor user reviews:

Now compare that kind of feedback to the Bose speakers in question:

Out of 90 or so user reviews 2 were poor. Do the math seriously! So Bose receives consistant possitive user reviews across the board with a solid 5 star. Logitech gets a hodge-podge mixed bag giving them an under par score of 3 out of 5 stars. A spade is a spade I am afraid!!

 

Go to amazon.com and search for Bose and Logitech speakers and examine the first results you get, look at the reviews.

Logitech speakers get 1036 reviews with 67 one star reviews = 6% voted 1 star

This is a perfect example of BIAS. You posated a link to a $25 dollar set then compared them to a $100 set. How many apples can you compare to oranges? How many possitive can you knock off for price?

He article not based on fact but pure speculation about the specs. His biggest beef seems to be that he thinks Bose is hiding things by not listing specs. He seems to think this is on purpose. But if you know sound, you will know that most hi-end names don't list watt specs. They do this for a reason, the main reason being the term "watts" dosen't represent quality in any way. It is almost like Intels MHz or GHz. It is very misleading in the sense that the term dosen;t mean much these days because of IPC.

 

To be fair, every negative review on the Z906 was because they liked their Z5500 (another Logitech system) better.

 

bose products are over priced while often under performing. one exception i found is the bose system on the 2005 benz ml350.
