    A few questions about http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2495.html ...........
    Is it safe to use?
    Is it necessary?
    Will it improve system performance?
Will it save hard disk space?
Do prefetch files pose any sort of threat or can they become a threat to my system's security?

Is it safe to use? Maybe. Is it necessary? No.

You can do all that yourself without bogging down your system with yet another installed system app.

Clear your prefetch folder once a month. C:\Windows\Prefetch.

    Set your Prefetch parameters:

    HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\Prefetch Parameters.

    Right click Enable Prefetcher, Modify:

    0 - None
    1 - Programs Only
    2 - OS files Only
3 - Both OS and Programs

Anything on majorgeeks is safe to use imo.

Oh, I have nothing against MajorGeeks...I'd just rather see individuals get the hang of getting their hands dirty when it comes to fine tuning their systems than relying on a program unless it's necessary.

All things considering, leave it alone. One thing you need to remember about the Prefetch folder is that it is self-cleaning to a point. It will only hold 128 .pf files, after that it works on the FIFO principle.

One thing you can do is to have a look in the Prefetch folder every now and then if you have installed and uninstalled a few programs and delete the appropriate .pf file, if present.

There should be no need to clean the prefetch folder. Deleting the contents of it will increase application startup times by upto 100%. It's a bogus tweak.
