Seems awfully expensive. IMO, Vista is simply an "improvement" on the Windows XP GUI. Nothing more, nothing less. I won't be buying it. I think I'll be stubborn and hold out for Vienna.

In case your wondering the current going rates in Canadian dollars for XP at NCIX are as follows.
    Windows XP Home OEM- $106.43
Windows XP Home Retail Upgrade- $138.00
    Windows XP Pro OEM- $176.35
Windows XP Pro Retail Box- $392.11 (!!)
Windows XP Pro x64 OEM Single Licence- 165.73
    Windows XP MCE OEM- $139.36

I'm assuming pro retail contains multiple licences due to it's price being so much higher than the OEM.

When I bought XP Home back in 2002, I bought the OEM edition. It came with a CD and quickstart manual wrapped in plastic. I forget how much I paid but it was probably around $150. The disc came with two licences.

Now, I know what the OEM version of XP looks like. This is what confuses me though. What exactly is the difference between the retail and OEM edition other than the OEM not coming in a fancy box? What's the difference between the retail and the upgrade.

For those still curious. Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger costs $89 Canadian for the single licence version. Linux of course is free.

I won't pay more than $120 for an OS.
A full os, not some cut down BS.
I have 4 legal copies and never paid more than that for pro.

Luckily I have a "friend" who can help me get Windows Vista either for free or with a big discount.

Lucky I get VLK licenses for it, so I'm licensed to get one of those.

Those prices are ridiculous, I wouldn't expect any Education, Business or Government to upgrade to Vista for a very long time.

They've just shot themselves in the foot...... again..

Very expensive prices as always and now they wonder why we using pirate software? hmm very intersting isn't it? what's more we need to wait year or two in order that all the programms will be comptable with windows vista and the prices much probably won't drop, so why buy it if u can get it for free? or even not get it :)

I won't pirate -- I'm going into IP law -- but I can sure see the temptation.
    Me? i'll find legal alternatives.

Haha. How ironic would that be. But of course...if you're going into IP law, you'll have enough money to just buy vista.

Pirate it and change the laws to reflect what they were originally introduced for rather then the current exploited state they are in now.
