I got KB4589212 installed without my doing on both Win 10 20H2 and 1809 systems (the KB equivalent for the latter version).
Result: Shadow of the Tomb Raider CPU performance degraded by ~4% on my 6700k, even though the initial Spectre and Meltdown mitigations are turned off via InSpectre:
    [IMG] [IMG]
~98fps vs. ~94fps (double checked, don't mind the slight differences in perspective or NPCs)

So I've blocked KB4589212 via wushowhide.diagcab. I wonder if the MC update will be forced on users with upcoming Windows 10 versions. What to do then, except of sticking around with old Windows 10 versions? There is an article by Microsoft about sidechannel attack mitigations, but it's a wall of text and it might still not be fully transparent either.

    I hate Windows. :(

Just curious does Inspectre turned on show lower results for you?

Yes, the performance penalties add up. :(
    It's ~93fps with Spectre/Meltdown mitigations without KB4589212. With Spectre/Meltdown mitigations + KB4589212, performance drops even further to ~88fps:
    [IMG] [IMG]

So more than 10% (88fps vs. 98fps) performance loss for sustained/avg fps in that particular scene when CPU bound. Not great...

I was gona ask what these were for seeing I got it and installed them today,

My 6700k went fron CCH to D6H. I have not really game on my system since I installed 20H2 beyond makeing sure my game ran. maybe I should see what going on.

Was there actual new attack there "patching" or is these just update to old microcode patchs that do the same thing but have bigger hits?

I know people complain about these messing with there SSD benchs but SSD postt

860 +/- 5 of it normal score too.

I will test my game later date, I was thinking of finish skyrim expansions after I finish HZD

I may never notice any diffrence less my pc can no longer cap at 60fps all the the game I have.

Out of curiousty has the flaws been fixed/patch HW wise out Intels new chips yet? or are they at mercy of the microcodes and OS patchs?

Nope, you're good, i mean op should reset to defaults with this tool, inspectre has his mitigation stuff all screwed up because it doesn't give complete mitigation and workaround controls.

    I see.

I will test my game on my pc at somepoint, but honestly unless game I know run 60FPS stable all the time sudden can no longer can none this will matter to me

    I'm now getting 89-90fps with restored defaults via MitigationStatus.exe + KB4589212, still ~10% loss. :(

Edit: And having only the microcode update installed, while disabling mitigations via MitigationStatus.exe (reverted to defaults before), also still costs ~4% performance.

D6 has been out since june last year

Wasn't aware that there was an AVX vulnerability found at the same time(where was the media coverage)

I got some optional "quality" update today, didn't exactly look at KB number but after installing it my machine was resetting in 3-10 seconds flat after logging in, had to go into advanced recovery options and uninstall it.

I'm now with RKL, the tool by mbk1969 indicates that no kernel/MC mitigations are active by default. Accordingly, I also don't see any performance regression in SotTR, also not with KB4589212.

After doing many hours of testing, enabling on X99 BW-E, still loses between 11-15% performance with SSDs, only on lower queue values and small blocks. There's also about 20% latency hit in accessing files on the SSD.
This is with all mitigations enabled. That said as far as actual game performance, I could not seen any measurable difference. However, with mitigations enabled there is still the odd stuttering with the Windows task bar. The animation is not as smooth. I know, weird, but repeatable over various OS revisions too.

0.1 ms difference.. it is noise, ~1% performance difference. Yes, frametime is performance, not frame per second.
