Windows Media Player 7.1

    Having trouble with Media Player. Whenever I click on a video or audio link, it says there is no data available , or that it cannot open the link. If I download the file, I can play it from my hard drive. <br>

    Have you got a firewall up ?? Sounds like there might be port blocking going on.<br>

    Or just reinstall media player.

    I ****in give up! I can't even get to the media player newsgroups because of some unknown error. I'm wasting so much time and getting nowhere!<br>
    OK...I feel better now. <br>
    Anyone have any ideas on what to do now? i've reinstalled it 3 times. Same result.<br>

    try updating your IE, that does seem to fix a lot in the file associations dept.

    A nice clean fresh IE install of IE6 and then WM player 8. Does wonders.

    have you W98 SR2 or SR1 if you have SR1 it's normal.<br>
    Other point was you before on AOL and now on DSL without reinstalling the OS if right you must reinstalle your system.<br>
