well I went and tried windows 8 again, but this time I created a vhd file with fixed size so it doesn't effect performance and installed windows 8 to it. and all seems good, great performance.

Im liking win 8 so far but occasionally my system doesnt shut down fully. No idea whats causing it but im assuming its something to do with the new fast boot thingy.

Just found out about this pain in the ass feature. Looks like "Microsoft" have implemented a new type of (DOS) that is going to make a lot of "Linux" users very unhappy.

    WINDOWS UEFI LOCKDOWN?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auO...DvjVQa1PpcFP05uIt9bxkrEPhj53HZT3hktZMFkhnxrc=

    https://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware...could-lock-out-linux-from-windows-8-pcs/14897

And it looks like it's not just developed for "Windows 8."

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463149

If they can add an option to make it fully usable for multi-platforms, it's a win win situation. Should make my lappy a little faster and a little more secure.

I dont know if its placebo or what but....

when browsing folders in windows 7 with lots of exe files and pics, explorer would lag when scrolling.

I dont seems to have this lag in windows 8. browsing folders seems really fast

for some reason my sidewinder x4 keyboard volume wont work untill I unplug the usb and replug it in.

I tried windows 7 drivers and the new windows 8 beta drivers.

might be the intel usb drivers?

it was working after I install both drivers untill I rebooted.

    edit...

figured it out. human interface device service was set to manual. changed it to auto and now it works

There's a simple little registry hack... and i think even a little app to do it automatically, that will bring back the Start menu in desktop view.

And... another thing i've found out that i'd like to point out to those who are dual-booting and have found this irritating. If you hate how it basically reboots again if you're in the Windows 8 version of the OS selection menu after selecting to boot into Windows 7.... go into the menu and change the default OS to Windows 7 (or whatever previous/other OS you are using). It actually basically DOES boot into Windows 8 itself before giving you the option to select which OS you want to use, which is why there's that additional reboot.

The "registry hack" doesn't work in the consumer preview.

I'd actually prefer if they had some sort of thing like they had for Windows Vista, where you participated in this little program/survey they were running, and at the end, got to choose whether you wanted a copy of Windows Vista or a copy of Office 10 or whatever.

I wouldn't expect it.... That would piss people off more than Metro seems to do...

Its the pics that do that, it tries to load all the picture information from each pic. As soon as you change something in the folder, it decides to redo the whole lot... pics aren't bad though, try navigating to a folder with dozens of digital tv recordings that save as .mpg's... (considering that can be a lot of GB's).
