WinFS isn't really a new file system....it's an addition to NTFS that is supposed to improve file search times. Nothing but a rational database.

it was supposed to be a file system at first, but the project was shelved and broke it into parts. parts of it were used in Vista.

some of it is now part of search 4.0,, ado.net, ms sql server.
MS is all the time creating new things then trashing them or evolving it to something different. apparantly they have created dozens of OS's never to see the light of day.

what about explorer was that good? for me i found still found the need for xplorer 2 which is far superiior imo. libraries is ok i guess, just an XML file but not a feature i would have a use for.

Well after a about a week of running Windows 7 I'm happy to say I've still had no problems. I own Vista Ultimate x64 and, as of now, I've no intention of going back. All my software works fine (games too) and I like the new features. I'm used to the taskbar now as well :)

I feel like the favorites are way better laid out then previously. I like the libraries feature a lot - I have music scattered throughout my machine depending upon whether I'm seeding it, editing it, or storing it. So it helps me a lot. I also feel like its way snappier on storage(whether internal or external) drives. I remember some of your other posts with things you wanted integrated into explorer, and I definitely agree with some of them and would be nice if you could activate some more advanced features with a menu option or something.

Can u believe that even creative released Beta driver for most X-FI series for windows 7? while they cut out vista driver on purpose when it launched.
Thanx god we have Daniel_K for his modded drivers across all creative products.

Has anyone got any experience (positive or negative) of homegroup? I tried setting it up with my housemate which I've still not got working properly. I couldnt connect to the service at first which I googled and found the solution was just to change the default password. After I connected the homegroup page is blank. Is this something thats not been implemented yet? I'm using build 7000 x64.

hey guys I really am frustrated with the latest tool bar , everything is grouped non of the browsers and folders seem to show independently on the tool bar..
Example if u use Internet explorer , all the internet tabs show in one icon , can all those internet explorer tabs show separately on the tool bar as seperate icons..cuz navigation seems annoying currently..

Like is there an option like (untick-grouped similar taskbar buttons) just like in XP and Vista..

yeah, default favorites are better, initially i drag folders over to it and use that to shortcut around and remove the ones i dont use,so for me its the same though i still say Tabs are sorely needed at the very least. a shortcut bar would be nice.

what did you think of preview pane? i dont understand why it cant preview whats inside folders as well, most of the time it appears useless though a very nice feature for certain file types, i guess i wish to see more on any selected item, even if its just general info like file size..anything but a blank pane but there i go rambling about my wishlist again

i dont think they intended to cut out vista when it launched, i think they were having issues with the new way vista handles audio and MS didnt help during the beta's when they kept changing everything..i think all hardware makers were having problems writing drivers for vista at first.

i think the video card manufacturers spoiled us with lots of drivers often, Creative is slow, but really so are most hardware makers. they also probably dont have many guys to create them quick enough, i'm sure it cant be easy so i try not to knock creative too much, their stuff works for the most part in general i think.

Got my W7 64bit installed, all updates and wddm1.1.

Impressions so far are pretty good. Only major problem so far is the SataII drivers for my ancient motherboard don't work and completely borks the install and windows can't repair it so I have to install via sata. Due to this problem W7 64bit feels like its crawling along when using SataII.

Lan drivers work using winxpsp2 compatibility mode like in W7 32bit.

Crysis Warhead patch 1, 64bit, playable at enthusiast at 1600x1200. Looks great and theres moments of real fluidity although obviously can get laggy in fights.

Flash installed under I.E. 32bit so youtube works :)

Using Daniel_k's vista audigy drivers. Win7's windows update Audigy driver's audio seems to eventually dissapear, no such problems with Daniel_k's version.

Steam works; half-life (opengl) and counter-strike source no problem.

Apart from the sataII problem initial impressions are good and Audacity benchmark shows near w7 32bit performance which is still twice the tracks offered by winxpsp3.

    Audacity benchmark 44.1khz 16bit;

    winxp sp3 = 19 or less
    win7 64bit - 51 tracks
    win7 32bit - 54 tracks
    Ubuntu Studio 32bit - 150+ tracks
    Ubuntu Studio 64bit - 170+ tracks

For audio Linux is still amazing, only held back by driver and daw support. Win7 closes that gap somewhat although it's still miles behind in terms of performance in this 1 benchmark.

Daniel_K made in 1 driver what creative couldn't make 3 years, the aweful original drivers for Audigy SE sounds so bad, the modded one that Daniel_K done sounds so great like it should be, he also brought missing function back while creative claimed that u need new soundcard, they need to be highly punished for this.

Not because of this, but because he asked for donations to keep his project alive, so he can provide support for more cards.
Key point he is doing it for FREE, while creative never done it even FOR MONEY, it's full shame to creative and creative should be the one that got suited by the customers, the fact that they are monopoly does not mean they can treat us like a wounded dogs.

Creative have been caught out with their drivers; found to contain deliberately crippling code. Even intermittant "problems" to make their old cards seem borked. I highly suspect this is the case with the w7 windows update version of the audigy drivers.

They're not what I consider a moral company and many people now know what they're really about which is why the x-fi 2 faces a long delay. They're changing slowly, like with their attitude towards the linux side of things, but, it's not enough.

Which is why people are more than willing to take chances with other companies sound card products now. Creative will be gone unless they radically, once-and-for-all change their drivers policy.

How is everyone's memory usage with a clean install of Windows 7? I got upwards of 800MB on a clean install. wtf?

When I was running the 7000 build of 32 bit I was doing ok, but it would only use 2 Gigs of my RAM, now I have the legit 7000 x64 build as a beta tester and it see's, and uses all 6 Gigs.
