I downloaded Windows 7 Beta, burned it to a dvd (ISO). formatted f:
partition, booted up, Windows began copying files, then i get an error,
saying Windows can't communicate with a device.

    Any ideas?

though i dont know, if its 32bit version, might try 64bit or vise versa, maybe even a re-burn would help.

Edit: Stupid comment, here is a better one,

You know you don/'t have to burn a dvd to install win7....just mount it in vista or whatever os you are running/, and just install it on another partition in that hdd....im not sure if it works going from hdd to hdd but deff works on one hdd two partitions.....just a thought

I have the 32 bit installed right now, is it worth a upgrade to the 64 bit version? Will I notice a difference?

thats how I installed mine, didnt even need to mount, just extract the iso(?) (downloaded the one from microsoft)and run setup from Vista environment

when it asked if I wanted to upgrade my current OS (Vista) I just chose advanced and from there it asked me which partition I wanted to install

well if you have 4gb of ram, the os in 32 bit only recognizes 3gb (ctrl alt del, performance in task mgr) the 64 bit will allow the whole 4gb, up to 128gb to be useable, and it is faster than 32 bit imo.

edit and WORTH, its free! try it! lol

Your burned DVD has errors and your DVD drive can't read it. That could be the problem.

under no circumstances should you upgrade vista to 7 beta, this is a bad idea.

upgrades should be removed from the setup options.

32bit Win7 will recognize ALL 4gb....but it will only utilize 3.5gb maximum. Performance differences between 32bit and 64bit are application dependent. The OS itself is only slightly faster...but application performance will vary based on application. Some 32bit apps will perform better in a 32bit environment.

and some 32bit apps will perform better in 64bit environment.
overall, 64bit wins and should be used as the default choice imo

    from wikipedia.
plus one app can use only 2gb of memory in 32bit environment while 64bit app running in 64bit environment is almost unlimited.

fact: if games like gta4 would be created for 64bit os, they would just run faster.

still using 32bit os hinders performance potential of both the users pc and other peoples pcs because developers do not develop 64bit apps..
