I just got these drivers, 181.72, though Windows Update.

Anybody know what it changes? I'm using the Windows 7 RC, by the way.

The driver date for 181.72 is April 2, 2009.

EDIT: Oh, nevermind. Was posted above.

I have W7 x64 build 7057 on another rig, and the only thing I've tested sofar is 3dm vantage. biggest differance was the drop in "CPU Points", maybe 500p (real GPU PhysX, 140->137 maybe), tested against the prev 181.71

Nvidia Control Panel disappeared after installing these, so I went back to 182.50 (185.x betas suck balls in WoW on my G80 8800 ultra)

Btw SoLoR, you're the Forte one, right?
I'm still in the guild :)

The CP is still there (if you have installed this driver over the previous one, without doing an uninstall that is), it's just not registered in the Shell..and it can be launched manually from [system_drive_letter]:\Windows\System32\nvcplui.exe

I've installed this driver through windows update and the method above works fine. Having no CP would be a real problem here because I've got used to DV too much, lol.

Just restart PC and it will come back to context menu.

And I think it would be better to do a clean install (I always do, but not with w7) cause I now have different files versions:

I installed these through win update over 181.71 from nvidia site.

Yeah, you're right. Just did it and it's there now :)

Yup, same here. I prefer doing a clean install too but was lazy this time and skipped it as the driver came from Windows Update. Plus I'm still stuck with build 7068 as I'm too busy to do a clean RC reinstall now (have a lot of work ATM + many apps installed, lol, so it would take some time to put all back together), will probably wait for RC to become officially available and Nvidia will probably release a new driver by that time anyway.

As for this driver, I have no issues because of the different driver file versions so far..haven't tested any games though but desktop performance seems fine, maybe operation with windows is even a tad faster now or it's just a placebo effect, lol.

I really like Windows 7 so far, been using it since beta stage and have nothing but positive things to say about it :)

Has anyone tested those against 185.68 yet? If my theory is correct, the game specific optimizations in this driver are still from the 181 series (december 2008). That would mean you gain WDDM 1.1 (yay, a few MB less used by wdm.exe plus Direct2D that noone uses right now) and potentionally lose gaming performance compared to the 185's.

Yeah, Left 4 Dead is slower with these than the 182s and 185s. In the intro shot to Blood Harvest, I get around 115-120 FPS with these, but with 182.50 I got around 120-125 FPS.

The frame rate difference isn't too noticeable in gameplay, though.

This driver has support for more cards than the previous 181.71.

This driver also supports Quadro cards in Windows 7.
