Okay, could be likely related to the hot plug and/or RST tech. Actually it would make sense that a hot plugged drive is shown as a removable device in Windows I think.

Have never had an issue switching from IDE to AHCI. All it requires is to install the AHCI driver from within device manager and then reboot into the bios and switch the setting to AHCI. Save and exit and reboot. Done. Intel may be different in regards to this.

Hey guys, just a quick question, sorry if this has been discussed already:

can I delete the $WINDOWS.~BT and $Windows.~WS folders from C:\ root?
Are they part of an old installation?

don't think you can straight up right click and delete those folders, though. Or at least not for the windows.old folder. had to go into Disk Cleanup for that.

Well, if you have "take ownership" added to context menu, you can outright delete the files.

Yep, windows.old needs disk cleanup for permissions, the BT~ folder on C:\ just needs taking ownership of if it won't delete normally

:) Yep, that BT~ folder is just where it extracts the upgrade file to before install, once it's upgraded, it's safe to delete

Unless Microsoft really screwed up and changed safemode hardware detection, all you have to do is boot into safe mode after changing modes.

Very easy to clean up after upgrading run disk clean with as administrator.

    This will clean everything.

I know from experience that in Windows 10, if you change your SATA controller to IDE it will work fine but, if you change it back to SATA, the computer will not boot and none of the usual fixes will work. This is with a motherboard that does not have UEFI.

That was my understanding too, switching from IDE to AHCI is troublesome. I think HH himself mentions this in SSD reviews.

I just upgraded from 16GB to 32GB of RAM, and at the moment can't utilize all of it.

I'm on Windows 7 Home Edition (Poor Edition) which only supports 16GB, how lame.. :nerd:

I really wanted to hold off on Windows 10 until June 2016 or at least until the
next wave of GPU's. You know, the fancy HBM2 memory ones that will rule middle earth.

Almost tempted to get a Windows 7 Pro key and do the anytime upgrade thingy.

Windows 10 is currently beckoning me to join the dark side, must resist temptation.. :p

My SSD space keep going down, And i notice it cause Diskcleanup NO longer delete Downloaded updates from the softwaredistribution folder like it does in win7.

Or is there set time that must pass before the cleaner will delete those files?

I have 7. I love 7 . I have free 10 upgrade. Can I install 10 on a new hd and dual boot without removing or destroying 7 and keep the two systems ?.

    or...

Will I have to buy 10 and set it up on a separate hd to dual boot ?

I only want 10 for dx12 games in the future.

    Thanks.

Your Win 7 license will be upgraded to a Win 10 license so you can't have both I think.
Though dual boot may work briefly until your old license is permanently consumed by Win 10, guessing by end of June 2016 at the latest when the free upgrade offer ends.

If you want to try it out, you need to upgrade your current installation to Win 10 and then clean install Win 7 separetely.

Or just wait until some DX12 games are out, there's none yet.
