You know, I really thought I could use Windows 10 without a 3rd party start menu, how did no one bring up these issues in beta? And if they did, why did Microsoft not listen? :(

Their feedback pages were absolutely full of people complaining about the start menu, but they ignored us

Soon as I found out SiB was 10 compatible, I stopped caring what MS did with the stock menu

I have not got the W10 update in Windows Update yet it just says "Your ready for Windows 10 we will let you know when it is ready".

However, I have just downloaded the W10 Media Creation Tool and it asked me in that if I wanted to update my PC to W10 and its started downloading now....

Is it ok to update the PC from 8.1 Pro to W10 Pro using the media creation tool and not through Windows Update? I did try forcing it by deleting the files in Windows directory and typing wuauclt.exe /updatenow into CMD as admin but that did not work.

    Thanks.

Well, for those wondering, it finally worked! :D

I did the USB install and I followed all steps and it worked perfectly! :)

I made a guide on Reddit for those who have the same problem as me:

    http://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3f18ef/how_to_upgrade_to_windows_10_if_windows_update_is/

But I have one last problem, when I go to settings and click on the tab 'Activate' it says it might take a while to activate W10 because I need internet acces, while I currently have it and click 'Activate' it tells me Windows can't activate, try later again.

So I just have to wait for Windows to recognize my install (Internet definitely is working here)?

Sadly that did not work for me, I tried it a couple of times.

Again, for those who have the same problem as me, try to look into my Reddit page and see if that works for you, for me it clearly did. :)

    Goodluck all! ;)

Yea fine, doesn't matter how you upgrade

Might wanna run disk cleanup > system files cleanup before upgrading via USB/ISO though to remove the temp WU files

If you originally upgraded from a genuine 7 or 8.1, then it should have auto activated once it went online - but bear in mind, it is the 29th, most of the world is awake now, and MS servers will be getting severely hammered

    Might just take a while

    fixed it!!!

    CMD (admin)

    slmgr /upk
    slmgr.vbs /cpky
    slmgr /ckms
    slmgr.vbs /ckms
    slmgr /skms localhost

after doing this, go to settings, update and recovery, go to store, it will check if its a genuine copy or not, in my case, it is a genuine copy, and got activated.

    tell me if it worked

    Yup, I upgraded from a genuine W8.1 Home-edition x64 (So legally licensed).

I think that's the problem, also regarding with the 'Windows has seen your reservation', I think it's just that the servers are getting so loaded that it'll take a while before things fully start to get into place.

Thank you again and goodluck everyone. :)

From 8.1 Core (Home) to 10 Home?

You didn't upgrade to 10 Pro did you? lol

8.1 Core has to upgrade to 10 Home
    8.1 Pro to 10 Pro

Upgrade then download or vice versa, makes no difference really

I think 10 upgrade downloads drivers it needs anyway before the install

Just upgraded today and omfg what a pos compared to 7. It boots slower for me than 7 did, the start menu doesn't work and the taskbar screws up.

    Phew!

It says Windows 10 Home, so that's all good.

Now for that Activate, I'll try the method up above and if that doesn't work, Patience is the Key I guess. :p
