I use an external Samsung 870 QVO SSD to install games onto but I noticed that Windows 10 Pro v20H2 detects the drive as a hard drive so when you open the Optimize & Defragment Drives tool then it shows the option to optimize as a hard drive as opposed to the option to TRIM the drive as it does with my boot SSD. Is there any way to tell Windows that my external L drive is an SSD so I can TRIM it? Or does TRIM automatically run?
you need a UASP enclosure or adapter cable with trim capability anything with the ASM1153E for example ASM1053E is uasp capable, but has no trim support.
Use Get-PhysicalDisk in Powershell. What does it show? I know that 21H1 corrected this bug....supposedly. You can use Set-PhysicalDisk to tell Windows that it's an SSD.
