Does it matter about using an older bios version that much?

I mean the likely hood of being targeted by these hackers if they have let to hack it (not seen anything) is slim right. damn thing has been around for a decade at least and ive yet to see hackers go after this point.

Glad performance hit isn't too high, 2% i can live with, some even saying they see nothing which is good... least for those using newer system.

    when is patch day? 9th?

You must be new here... wait, you ARE new.
HH is not an Intel fan, nor an AMD fan. The test were made with a gamer/common user perspective.

No it's not, shut up. Even Google/Amazon came out and said the performance issue is overblown in their workloads. There are a couple synthetic tests that show big drops but it doesn't translate into any real world scenarios.

Hilbert's testing just further proves this. Yes it sucks that Intel loses some performance but the initial reports were overblown by commenters like you who are impatient and hyperbolize everything.

Can't stop laughing. I guess you were disappointed by the findings didn't you? Well if you want sensationalism you can find lots of it on YouTube.

The question that remains for me is the following. When the performance implications of the patch are between +/- 2% why was this memory leak introduced in all intel cpu's since 1995?

Where is your evidence? And what do you base it on? I presume you will show us the areas that are most affected by the security patch and that concern the majority of users? If you are unable to provide evidence, then you might just be a butthurt troll that just doesnt like facts. So put up or shut up.

Because the fix minimizes the performance penalty:

What are you talking about? Of course hackers are like super villains (deciding who will be a president and other terrible doings). Not all of course, only top ones. Not top ones are just their sidekicks.

Dont worry. They will also steal your credentials to sell your accounts and games.
You will have a lot of free time to look for the porn...
And it will be a slow process as they will use your resources for crypto.
It would be a crime to let the machine idle.

I'm on Windows Insider 17063. I'm slightly concerned.

This has to be among the dumbest posts I've read on this subject. This site caters to gamers, thus, performs benchmarks based on that particular audience. For that particular audience, the patches have minimal performance impact. The largest performance impact has been seen in Object Rationality Database software.

For AMD users, the patches should provide no performance impact if coded properly.

Microsoft requiring antivirus software to be updated prior to this patch being installed was a bad move in my option, especially given that there is no indicator that the patch even exists prior to antivirus update. I tried to install the patch on my laptop but it's not presently available for me, however, Dell pushed out a new bios updated already. I'm not bothering with the patch on my RyZen desktop until I get it installed and working on my laptop first.

Yep...nothing to see here, imo. Just like a lot of security patching we've seen all through the years. The new year is starting to remind me of those old anti-Windows "security bulletins" that made you think the current Windows was a slice of Swiss cheese until you got to the fine print at the bottom which said: "*Above vulnerabilities only apply to unpatched Windows systems"....! The kind of testing you are doing helps put these bugaboos to bed before they can spread like fungi...!

    Thank you kindly once more!

Yeah it's easy to get worked up about benchmarks even if real world perf. wouldn't suffer that much.

I'm guilty of that often enough, admittedly.

By the time Intel releases another processor, most will have forgotten all about this fiasco and anyone that mentions it will be attacked for being an "amd fanboy" ....

Did some amature benchmarking of games myself and will share my results with you guys.
    Benchmarked using Intel 4th gen 4770k, 16gigs DDR3 and Gtx1080 SLI on a Windows 10x64 OS
I lowered the rendering resolution from 3440x1440 to 2560x1080 to create a CPU limited scenario in all benchmarks. All scores are averages. Keep in mind that CPU microcode is not updated. Only Windows OS update is aplied.

As you can see there is no noticable diffrence in games for people with older 4th gen Haswell cpu's.
