I tried many other forums, so this actually is my very last chance in getting a positive comment with a solution. :(

So, I have a new notebook since 2 weeks now, talking about a custom notebook by BTO Notebooks. It has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD6970 with incredibly out-dated drivers.

Whenever I go to ATI.com, I download the following driver:

As soon as I run the setup, it can't detect a videocard.

Now I contacted the company where I bought the laptop at, they told me I have a videocard with a different ROM on it. That I will need the drivers of their website, but they're completely out-dated, actually the're from December 2010 which ends up in several games running laggy with graphical glitches.

Is there anything I can do myself to still run the very latest drivers?

Before I use it, do all modified cards have the same modification that prevents the original drivers from detecting the card and working at all?

Also, the drivers I need are: Windows 7 Home Premium - 64bit

    EDIT:
How can I edit them myself? I came across this tool, but it's way outdated:

Get the device id of your gpu from device manager and insert it into the driver inf file.

Woah, I'm not some kind of pro! So a little guidance or a step-by-step guide would be highly appreciated! :p

    Just goto here http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=347384

    Click the MobilityMod download link

    Download

    Install

You are good to go, if you need newer drivers ever, just keep checking back to these forums for updated drivers, people patch them automatically for mobility users for download and installation

Alright thanks for the handy links mate! :)

But then I still have some questions:
    - What happened to these drivers? (Since they tend to work with a branded/modded videocard)
    - Isn't it like really dangerous to just use these drivers? (clockspeed- and memoryspeed wise?
    - Can I damage my card by using these drivers?

Sorry for these questions, asking them out of precaution! :)

Core and memory speeds are controlled by the cards Bios not the driver.
