My brother started playing dragon age origins on my computer and he really likes it but as some of you know, its a longgg game. He has a PC with 7800GT P4 3.2ghz(single core) 2GB of 800mhz win xp 32bit. Will his computer be able to run it at all on a resolution of 1024x768? lowest settings?
the minimum spec is: * OS: Windows XP with SP3 * CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.4Ghz or greater * AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater * RAM: 1GB or more * Video: ATI Radeon X850 128MB or greater * NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater * DVD ROM (Physical copy) * 20GB HD space so nope, probably wont run on it.
yeah i saw it.. but i thought maybe someone tried with something similar. and that a 1.4ghz dual would equal about a 3.2ghz single?
no it doesnt work like that at all, the ghz is simply the speed the cpu can process instructions at, however each new cpu as vastly different architecture and is superior in its optimisations, they are not the same, in fact 1 core in a 4Gh i7 is probably 3 or 4 times faster than a single p4. Super pi is a good synthetic benchmark for raw performance, it will only use 1 thread, if you look at the records here P4 manages 31.33 seconds@4.307Ghz, i7 at the same speed does it in ~9.34seconds.
The 7800GT should be fine though. Not maxed out mind you. The game is just pretty heavily CPU involved though.
You can find everything on youtube these days. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBX8lv0JPvI Should work I guess. With lowered settings for 7800GT...
Get a new rig. A Pentium 4 is an ancient artifact in terms of computers. You can have a midrange rig for $600 that'll run the game better than this P4. deltatux
I know its a cpu game I have a i7@4ghz and it uses even a lot of that (game is maxed out ofcourse). I also know his pc is utter crap by today's standards, but his not buying a new 1. EDIT: just downloaded and checked CPU-z, it is a hyperthreaded P4 3.2ghz. so ill try and install and see how it goes.
Well, my other older machine is like that: ATI 3850 AGP (512MB) AMD64 3700+ (2200Mhz...Singlecore) 2GB RAM Win7 64bit And it runs wonderfull all maxed out at 1280x1024. even with 2xaa an average of 40-70fps. So its not essential to have a c2d as a minimum. More important is the Graphics Card. And the 7600gt is what i am worry about. I played DragonAge on my System you can seen on my profile and replaced the GTX280 with a 8600GTS (256MB) VGA for some tests. Well DragonAge runs like **** on the 8600GTS even at lowest ingame settings i had an average fps of 10-30fps. with a Quadcore CPU. So the 8600GTS was a huge bottleneck. And because the 7600gt is even slower i wouldnt be happy with playing DragonAge on that system @DF-1
lol, yeah i read some of the generals posts... the guy is a total troll. I also know about the architecture being newer on C2D's, which = more performance. but i thought that it wouldn't be TOO dramatic. Anyways, we installed it and transferred the saves, installed dlc etc. i pressed Resume game and i couldn't stop laughing!!!! the thing looks sooooo bad. It ran fine with slight hiccups every now and then (lowest settings possible, 1024x768) Hope this thread helps someone else out there!
