    I dont get it why?

They're very good with their current sets like the Promedia Ultra 5.1's, I dont see how hard it is to add a extra speaker or two for the rears...

And same for the Z-680's, what makes it so hard to add the extra 2 channels to sell?

Probably cause the market's so small. And those promedia speakers are huge and expenisve.
A promedia ultra 7.1 setup would probably cost $600-$700 at launch. They'd have to reegnineer the amp (needs to be able to handle well over another 120Watts) and the sub would have to have more power to keep up with the dbs and watts each channel pumps out.
Really, so few things take advantage of 7.1 (one of the biggest areas, dvds for example), there's no real point to it atm.
Theres a whole lot more than adding a speaker.
Some people have been known to find promedia 5.1s with some busted speakers and set up 7.2 systems. *drool*

7.2 works, if it wouldnt be for the extra subwoofer imbalance.......

Sigh.... seems like Cambridge Soundworks S750 7.1 would be the only choice for high-end PC sound?

You're pumping massive power through these speakers. Klipsch being well over any Logitech set. Klipsch uses much more powerful amps than any of Logitech's set, one reason why the Klipsch cost more.

But the market is also small, few things take advantage of more than 5.1, and few people really even want it.

And the cambridge isn't all that good. :(

Read Hilbert's Review of the Creative GigaWorks S750 7.1 THX Certified system, its a well written, and indepth review of those speakers, in fact Hilbert made it sound like they were a really awesome setup to have, so awesome, imo that wouldve gotten a set myself, but ive already got a set of their little brother, the S700's and I must say even the S700's kickass even though they're minus 2 channels, but easily upgradable to the S750's by purchasing an upgrade kit if needed.

it's the supply and demand thing...there isn't much true 7.1 material out there right now...as for the extra sub..it's not needed..human hearing cannot localize low frequency sound....thats why you can put your sub to the side and it'll sound like it's coming from everywhere..rule of thumb BTW if you can close your eyes and pinpoint where your SUB is located..it's too loud.....common thing with some people..cranking the sub....very bad...drowns out the rest of your frequency response...
