Why do humans need groups?

I have been thinking alot about people in general and it seems that a majority of society has to have thoughts and ideas feed to them. When looking at things like religion, fraternities, sororities, or groups like the masons, It seems people have to have a "Group" with shared beliefs to tell them things, guide them, etc. I dont get why people belong to such things. To me the beauty of having a mind is the ability to think for ones own self.

I am not trying to light a religious debate, this is to probe the human need for belonging and groups and combined thought. What are your ideas?

I wonder that myself, i like figuring things on my own too, but sometimes i do catch myself seeking company of a group before i realize it and stop. Maybe its the way the brain is wired, we seek strenght in numbers, even on a psychologic level (not just physically).

Everyone belongs to a group of some kind, even if they don't know it. You can't be a member of Guru3D and say your not in a group.

basically you would go crazy by yourself, have you ever just sat in your room with no internet no tv and no interaction? you would go crazy

not to mention we wouldnt have tv and the internet, because one person doesnt make the internet

 

Actualy i did.... 1day X_x they turned all light off and i did sit @ home doing nothing.... was drinking juice and eating somthing... then i did walk around by my self.... damn it was booooring...

 

Because it's harder to level solo.

 

you need drinking buddies, a life partner, colleagues, family...... the list goes on.

the only way we can progress as a species is by getting along,

 

i am inno group.. other then guru3d and my gf livingin with me.. but other then that i have NO freinds and i have no interaction with the outside whatsoever.

i go to school for 1hr,come home then get online or sleep

 

So how did you meet your gf with no freinds (please dont say WoW.)
