I just thought I'd start a short thread ;) to take a poll of the number of people who are content with the new OS. I realize that a lot of people didn't do their homework beforehand and are having a number of problems. Given that this is a fledgling OS from MS, IMHO it is definately the best thing MS has come up with - ever! Right out of the box it works - and it works great. What a contrast with Windows Me; although, there are some people who actually equate Vista with Me! :knock:
Well, I'm running the 64bit on my desktop and it is ROCK SOLID! I've been waiting years for a good consumer 64bit Windows and here it is - finally. I now feel as if my computer system is complete.
Remember; this OS was just released! There will be a flood of drivers within the next while and people will see their Vista install improve over time. For me - going back to XP from Vista would be ludicrous! It's not even an option.
I LOVE MY VISTA - Did you hear that, Bill? You should be paying me! :)
Having read numerous reviews and such, I wasn't expecting too much from this new OS. I was surprised that it set up most of my hardware right away, download drivers for others and I was able to find updated drivers for my audio and video.
So far, I'm doing everything in Vista that I did in XP and everything is just so smooth. I would like to get more RAM when I can afford it. Vista loves RAM (my system is pretty fast with 2gig, though).
The bottom line is that a lot of people are going to hate Vista, with it's UAC, DRM (which isn't MS's fault) and all the other "user unfriendly" crap. Vista is going to confuse and scare a lot of users with it's pop-ups and alerts. Like any other new software, there's a bit of a learning curve.
One thing for sure is that the majority of users will buy the 32bit version of Vista, which has a much wider range of support for hardware.
Anyway - who loves it; and who hates it?
    Damn, it's early! :bounce:

    Working great for me!

sure, you have to turn a few things off and turn a few things on, but once you have done that it runs great!

I had to get a new TV card in order to upgrade to vista (nothing else), that is the only thing that was not compatible

with the new tv card in, vista runs better than XP, what more could you ask for?

I love mine(Home Premium), but noticed in game play it would be running very smooth ,then just completely lag up. Almost like it was paging to my harddrive. So Im back to xp till they hammer out the bugs. Probably driver related as I have a fairly decent box as well. I just upgraded to a 8800GTS from my 1900XTX and had the same issue on the 1900xtx. Wondering if going to onboard audio would help any. Anyone else having this issue. One more thing. This is 2 clean installs of vista.

Sounds like a Bill Gates love fest. Go you fan boys, go.

Vista 64 is far from ready and MS can stuff their DRM where the sun don't shine.

Still, if you like it, have fun. Let us know how well it survives without Defragmentation/Registry Cleaning/Anti Virus/ and all the other stuff that keeps IT people occupied round the clock.

Being lazy myself, I prefer to use OS's that don't require so much hand holding but if MS has delivered in Vista, I'd be interested in hearing. I seriously doubt it though.

Got my copy of Home Premium yesterday, ordered the x64 disc at the same time. Hopefully it will not take long to arrive from MS. So far so good. Works like a charm. The only thing im little concern with is that the indexing service takes a long time to do the indexing of the drives. Could be NForce 680i driver related tho.

I also have installed the 100.59 8800 driver set and the new NForce driver set from Nvidia. The only game i had little problem was vanguard but i fixed that. Many people says you must install DX9 runtime to fix that but i say no, just extract the D3Dx9_31.DLL and put that in your game directory and your golden.

I mainly play BF2, 2142 and CS Source as well CS SOURCE is the only game that dosent lag for me. It snot a constant thing just everyonce and a while. IM running the latest nforce drivers and the latest 8800 series drivers from nvidia.

So far, I've got no problem. I'm going to install some more games and spend more time playing.
Just as a side note - judging from all the comments - I believe Vista's going to be a rather slow starter. There's too many choices and (common) people are just confused and apprehensive! But...I have NO problem there. ;)

BTW: just to test the integrity of my system, I visited a number of porn sites for about twenty minutes and nothing got through to my computer!

Speaking just for the 'Ultimate' version: it does defragmentation on it's own, my registry is clean (restoring to a previous state is easy - I also have a full image backup). I'm using Avast A/V, which is EXCELLENT and it's also FREE for a year! I also use Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D.

I have Ultimate x64 and I like it very much. I wouldn't mind to remover XP from my systen, but... because of the inmature graphics drivers I'm forced to go to back to XP once in a while.

Latest example is the Supreme Commander demo. After the Nvidia logo my Catalyst driver (something with the R300 Oo) refuses to work. Hopefully the 7.2 drivers are going to be a big improvement.

Besides that, I'm very happy with Vista :).

You hit on my worst fear there.Sound.This is what's holding me back.Specifically gaming surround sound. How is Creative's ALchemy?Seems like we the gamers have some heartbreak ahead of us with older games using D3D.Please people,Make me feel better.
