Who has PSU with +12v , 16 amps on a 8800GT? Are you running fine? no freezes , crash? :X and how many FPS you get on the games you play now. ? And what brand is ur 8800GT? It will be great for u guys to share ^^ cause i have a 300W and i ordered a 8800GT need to wait weeks
Ive seen a few guys running one on low wattage psu`s , but to be honest id` invest in some more power, especially since your still waiting for the card. Any power consumption problems you may have you can cast aside. Ive seen one running in a shuttle,350w, and it ran with no probs at all. What ampage do you have on the 12v rails? ,,and PSU make too,?
Where can i see that :C i have desktop open But i run 7900GS OCed just fine and the 7900GS wattage is almost same as evga 8800GT 7900GS - 12v , 20 amps 8800GT - 12v , 22 amps i oced 7900GS a bit high still works
Should be a sticker on the side of the PSU casing. If not , google the make and chk the manufacturers website. You may be ok with 300w, others will give you a definate answer, it would just be nice to know your stable with a bit more oomph. What model Gateway is it? ps: i think the psu may be a startech model, may have found the exact one,,more info soon bud,,
I would find a way to get a new higher powered PSU. Your 300W may work, it may work for a time, it may work and shut down your system in the middle of play. No mater what however, under full load (playing a game that requires a lot of power consumption) will stress your PSU to the max and could cause it to go up in smoke, and possibly taking other hardware with it. This is very possible, though perhaps not very likely. But, just the changes of that happening would cause me to look for a more acceptable PSU. Here are some real usages from reviews and benchmarks. The figures are total system power consumption... Low range is 212W, to a mid range of 225W with the the highest being 280W - again this is full system consumption - not just the 8800GT. Your 300Watt PSU would be very stressed even on the low range. Unless your PSU is of very high quality and the 300W is under-rated, basically you are playing with fire trying to run a 8800GT on a 300W PSU...
The Duke has spoken,,,,,and Wise words too,,,,Take heed and get a bigger Watter,,,It may end in tears,,,the operative word being "may".
the 8800GT was to expensive.. and is not my credit card my parents needs to pay him now lol and they said not to spend more then 300$ i spend $295 total.. So i can't get a PSU , well see how it runs on my 300W If theres any problem i will tell my parents see if i can order a cheap PSU :X if theres no problem i hope this 300W can keep up till i get a job.. build my own PC etc. i being lazy lol it may run fine since my 7900GS oced runs good at zombie mod in HL2 60 players :X
All i ask is who has a PSU with +12v , 16 amps running the EVGA 8800GT which require +12v , 22amps! Please add me on msn to talk if u can handle it I been searching to see how it runs on a 300W Some people don't know crap. , if none of u never played 8800Gt on a 300W i suggest to be quiet Cause I only have a amd athlon x2 +4200 , which don't require much Power 1GB ram... yes only 1 GB RAM and is weak too'' Only 1 HD , 250gb HD with 2 cache.. very crap. Tv tunnel ( gonna take it off ) and some crap dvd burner , etc etc TY MY MSN IS daddyyankeezz@hotmail.com Sry for my attitude , And i just wanna play HL2 , old games. Maybe CoD4 , etc My temps on 7900gs when playing is 67-68 ;/ kinda high when i put a fan it stay 50-51. , imma do that to the 8800GT is way to high.
16 amps? You're not getting any answers because no one is using a 16A psu with an 8800GT. My 30A psu cracked the sh!ts when I GTed up, so in your case I wouldn't even bother. Another thing to remember is that your X2 is not that powerful anymore, but still eats power. My TDP is 110W, substantially more than C2Ds. Your psu will not work.
uhh, the above post has two 12V rails of 16A each, so you have more than 16A total. Probably like 28-30 combined - they can't both be at full power in most PSUs. If you just want to play old games, then isn't it kind of a waste? but you will need a new PSU. I could see some 400 watt ones working fine, but with only 16A on the 12 Volt, it just can't handle it. You will want to look for one with about 30A, which is really the next step up anyway even though it seems big. The other lines are about the same on all PSU's since they don't power that much. The only real difference between a 300 watt and a 1000 watt is the 12V power and number of connectors. I'd say a 500 Watt would be plenty for an 8800GT with a 600 Watt being perfect since you should be fine for another upgrade later. OCZ stealthXstream 600 watt is a great one. And I agree, athlon X2's still have plenty of life in them. You just have to realize they are not relatively powerful overall, but in games they are just fine.
Like I said!! More power Arrarrarr! I don't have smarts of these guys with regard to 'pewters' but you can't go wrong with the PSU I have. My mate proper guru recommended I go with it and it also has a cool blue light thing going on! Shouldn't be to expensive either! Regards, hallryu
yes you cant go wrong the GameXStream but i hear rumors that the quad 12v rails run your electric bill threw the roof. can any1 confirm this?
