I currently have a Q6600 which is good Yet I will buy a second system So within the list which one I should buy for price performance ratio Actually I don't want t spend too much over 300 units E series dual core so not good at rendering i7 systems need new motherboards which may be pricy Anyway which one you recommend Is there any good review about the processors
9550 since has nice cache and you can OC it easier than the 9400 or 8200, plus it comes at higher speed
thanks for your replies does i750 requires ddr3, is that what you mean board options cheapest 2 gb stick ddr3 ram options why there are 3x1 gb or 3x2 gb rams, how they will work in dual mode in 3 pairs by the way I use a fair amount of harddisks, I currently have 3 sata hdd, 2 ide hdd and 2 sata dvd drives, not essential yet an ide socket would be nice for motherboard
If you can upgrade to a new Mobo & RAM, I recommend the core i5 for the price. Your Q9550 is ~ "30 units" more than an i5. The i5 will out perform the Q9550.
If you are not going to overclock, or do it very little, then go for the Q9400. If you are going to overclock hard, then I would go for the Q9550. Q9400 is good processor, but not a good overclocker.
what are you rendering in? as a Quad Core with HT will give 8% to 16% # faster render output in e.g. 3dsmax8 than the same speed (Ghz) Quad Core without HT (I7 920 with HT on vs. I7 920 with HT off) # = dependent on render engine used It is also about the same speed faster at encoding rendered output in post production/editing 8% to 16% over 1 year is worth way more than >16% initial capital outlay
Well, yes if you go i - whatever you need mobo and RAM. In terms of DDR3 RAM and slots, it depends on the mobo. If the mobo it's 4 slots, you need 2x kits, if the mobo it's 6 slots , you need 3x kits. Most mid-ranged to high ranged mobos has 6 SATA II connections. (Some more , usually 1 in a separate controller). In any case, if 6 sata connectors are not enough, you can always buy PCIe (min 1x, prefer 4x or 8x) cards to have more of them. BTW, it's not a good idea to have that many HDDs IN the case, since heat issues can arise. Not only for the HDDs itself (that if they mounted too close to each other they will operate at higher temps) but also increasing overall in-case temps. It always comes to a point when it's better just to replace them with 1 or 2 bigger HDDs or move stuff that you don't usually use to an external HDD and take the disks out. If all you care it's about rendering, and don't game / do some 3d stuff i would keep my investment low for now (just replace the currect CPU with a better one). If you plan to do a new build on the new Intel platform, I would go a bit further and make a good build ofr the next 3 years; taking into account everything (PSU,GPU,case, etc). But that's just my opinion

never buy PCI cards to increases the amount of s-ata slots you have. buy at least pcie x1 cards. pci bus has too litle bandwith to realy handle any good harddisk
I didn't know there are 6 slot motherboards, thanks for the explanation thanks for the advice I have a professional case which handles heat issues, actually I should have install everest and speedfan for checking hhd temperatures, yet my operating system is corrupted currently the issue is I have 1 system, and I will buy another system so either I will go for a bit lower than my current build, or I buy a better one and switch computers I read HT issue too, some i5 or 7 series doesn't support HT which will be a waste is there any reference which i series support HT and which doesn't I never play recent 3d games and not interested in them in anyway I do CAD modeling with Rhino I do use 3ds max and 3rd party render engines, but in any case rendering requires 100 percent CPU power so doesn't depend the engine I also do photoshop editing and like layering so good cpu power where needed is good I will read reviews about price/performance ratio q9550 is a good option not sure if i5 worths motherboard+ram upgrade if I keep ddr2 lga775 chipsets the rams will be switchable and I may upgrade my system with better new parts My current system is Q6600 G0, Gigabyte GA EP45 D3SR 1.0, Patriot Viper Extreme PVS24G6400LLKN DDR2 800 CAS4 4-4-4-12 SLI ready 2x2 GB, HIS ICEQ3 ATI HD 3870 DDR4 512 MB, with Enermax 600 W Modu82+
