Looks like Unigine favours nVidia over AMD by quite a chunk after watching the video gaming benchmarks scores between the 290 and 780 being so close

No I think it's more to do with Intel CPU.

AFAIK Unigine benches aren't CPU bound.

Guys, here is my new Valley Benchmark.

Something was wrong with first benchmark...

I know my i5 jumps around 55-70% on all cores with my 780 and it's clocked to 4.5Ghz.

That's not accurate way at all to judge whether or not its bottlenecking it or not. It might be tiny limiting factor in some scenes but it would hardly make the 10 fps or so difference.

compared to 3dmark graphics score, yes they are. the only bench that pretty much doesn't care what cpu you have is 3dmark (11/fire strike etc).

Make your CPU stay at 3.0Ghz and run the bench then run it again at your normal clocks. Heaven is not CPU bound just it does use it and a weaker CPU will show.

Nope not really, my old Q9450 @ 3.6Ghz was fast enough for Heaven, same by Vally.. I see it now vs Haswell.

    Edit: see what i mean

    Vally,
    570GTX @ 950mhz, Q9450 @ 3.6ghz
    [IMG]

    now 580GTX @ 900mhz, 4770k @ 4.6Ghz
    [IMG]

    Heaven
old, same OC like by Vally
    [IMG]

    new,
    [IMG]

    btw 900mhz 580gtx = 970-975mhz 570gtx.

Just wanted to point out that Valley in particular vastly favors Nvidia for whatever reason. I get 70 with the Extreme preset.

    Valley loves memory bandwidth too.

That's not true, Firestrike scores depend heavily on CPU used. Any hyperthreading CPU always scores way more in the physics and thus in the overall test.

I'm talking about graphics score, you even quoted where I'm saying graphics score.

I think you are missing the point I'm not claiming a huge difference but a slight one (like say 35-65 points overall difference). The point is that CPU does play a role in heaven either. The last few scenes are great examples.

On valley I don't really know I have not played with that one much.

No it doesnt, 1ghz higher cpu OC and still got the same max fps, says it all and its mostly 1-3 cores active, usually 2 max.

And btw 50-65 points difference is 1-2 fps, in my case it was because 580GTX has that extra kick over 570GTX lol

Edit: if you all want to know,
    HardReset
    Hitman Absolution
    3dmark 06 (1st gfx test)
3dmark vantage (1st gfx test - Jane Dash)

are all one big cpu bottleneck, 3dmark 2011, 3dmark2013 Firestrike, Heaven & Vally is nothing.

And I think we all went off track, that FX3850 will be enough in newer games.. Older games/benchmarks is another story.

This is all true except in heaven the CPU can become a bottleneck on faster GPU's. OP's 290 is roughly 210% faster than your 580. I'm not trying to call your GPU slow so don't misunderstand. Just take a look at the max FPS the 290's and 780's are getting compaired to yours. I'm just saying that there are a few scenes in heaven that can become a CPU bottleneck on some systems.

When I get home from work tonight I'll post screens from both my systems. Stock and overclocked. If I'm wrong I will admit it but I'm fairly certain on this one.

The thing is 3dmark 06 or Vantage makes a big difference, while Heaven is marginal error.

I really doubt it will make a huge difference, even if you have 1x faster gpu.. Unigine is all about gpu power.

Edit: ok yeah test and report back :nerd:

Okay I did the tests on my sig rig.
    First CPU @4.8Ghz HT on

Next CPU @ stock speed HT off (to simulate a stock 2500k)

a 37 point difference not huge but its what I was saying there are a few scenes that tax the CPU a bit.

BTW if you want to see something funny run the same setting I have on a 6970 it can't do more than 15FPS.

Does Heaven not show the OC clock speeds of the CPU for Intel CPUs?

Mine shows 4800MHz for my OC where the stock clock is 4GHz
