    GPU:
    HIS 3870 IceQ 3 DDR4 512
Radeon HD 2900 XT, HD 2900 GT, Radeon HD 2600 XT (512 MB GDDR4 version), HD 2600 Pro, HD 3850/3870, HD 4870 [not sure] are moddable

Can anyone tell me which of the ATI HD 3450, 4350, 4550, 4670, 4730, 4850, 4870 or 4890 series are moddable and which others are not

I currently have a 3870, I am building a second system so I will try to buy a new softmoddable card, yet 3870 aren't on sale anymore

SAPPHIRE HD4550 HDMI and SAPPHIRE HD4670 are cheap
4870 and 4890 are too pricy, 4870 is around %20 and 4890 is around %50 more than 4850
I consider buying Sapphire, SAPPHIRE has VAPOR-X series, what is the difference

    Thanks in advance
A fast reply may be cool

No one is answering cos no one knows the actual answer or they don't want to serv you cos you are too lazy yourself to check it out. By spaming the threads with requests you are just making it harder for other people to find out what they need and the answer you are looking for is probably just on a previous page.

Take a look at the latest patchscripts there is a list or quadrofx/firegl cards that the regular cards are moddable to. Then go to wikipedia or a gpu review site and compare the firegl cards to regular cards to discover which they are based on.

What you will actualy get after the softmod is a discussion worth of an entire thread. You have been spaming the forum for days and you could have used that time to check it out yourself. We can't and we won't serve everyone who comes in here. If we did so there would be a million threads every day asking for a how to and that would just spama the forum and make it useless for eveyone.
Don't get me wrong I don't have anything personal against anyone but people should first try to help themself before they ask for help.

To generaly sumarize. I think most if not all ATI cards are moddable, well at least the ones for which there is a appropriate firegl/firepro counterpart.
I use WinXP don't ask me for Vista or 7 cos I just don't know.

It took me 1 minute to dig this out in the firegl thread:
    http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=3242858&postcount=358

For what program do you need a firegl so we can cut to the chase?

    I am not lazy
I have successfully modded 3870 myself for 1-2 years
I helped others best way I can
    I asked and noone replied
today I am buying a new system so the time is up for spam (if you call it like that)

I have already read every entry in the threads
if you read my post you can tell easily since I give the successful mods along with dubious 4870 mod

I know the debate over performance, yet what some kids doesn't understand firegl isn't really about wireframe performance (sure it is for 3ds max for heavy scenes) yet it is about anti-aliasing quality of the wireframes in opengl, which is more important for me in Rhino, especially for ease of use and visualisation purposes

I intend to buy a second card
the issue is 3870 is not on market anymore
    and 4870 are too expensive
and mod of wesley didn't work on my 3870
actually my 3870 is corrupted right now either by operating system dll or by the softmods I made

I know information about early sucessful cards I am asking about other cards

I mean if it is not moddable for sure I don't spend money for 4850

i can kind of understand your feelings. I have read all the threads I can about 4870 x2 and am a bit concerned its not moddable. I read something where windows 64 is not working right, also the performance increase is only 30%. I dont think it would hurt for someone with conclusive information to reply on this.

4870 does not seem that expensive now. Remember when cards were $500? $280 off ebay does not seem too bad.

    my questions are

will the X2 version work ( I mean both cores)
will the 4870 be moddable for rhino,SW,max?
and if so what is the latest patchscript.

looks like they are all moddable. I just upgraded to a 4870 1GB and did not see any perfomance increase over the HD2900XT. though its a nice card, im happy it modded well. get what you can afford

I had modded a 4870X2 for a trial almost 8 months ago on a friends card and only one core was working at that time.

Right, but I think with the new drivers it could work, as there is a FirePro X2 card available now (FirePro V8750) which matches the HD4870 X2..

Reference 4870, 4870x2, 4890. They have to be reference pcbs except for the dual fan Asus 4890

I don't think so, as my HD4870 is not Built By ATI (XFX Design) and also works.. Or did I misunderstood your sentence??

XFX uses the reference design. It's got to have a volterra chip on the back basically.

OK thanks but how do you know it doesn't work with other HD4xxx cards?

Because they need the appropriate volterra chip to be softmodded. Most non-reference PCBs use different power circuits.

I now have a 5770, not sure if it is moddable or not

are you sure 4870 are moddable, if I knew I would have replaced my 3870 with a 4870

edit updating this post. I have had some issues with the 4870 mod with 6.33 drivers. mainly if you have a cad program open. and try to move a window either that cad program or another, you get allot of lag trying to move window or menus. I may revert back to my HD2900

edit: I reverted back to HD2900XT 512mb, using 6.33 drivers. Issues have gone away for the most part. I am wondering if the 4870 1GB Sapphire is really modding correctly now. or maybe a bad card? was new however.

that looks interesting, maybe gurusan is right and you should look if you have this voltera chip on the card..

    @gurusan

where does your information come from, are you working at AMD? ;)

Are you pulling this one from your as*? Sorry for the expression but I just don't buy it. What does a power regulation chip have to do with the SOFTmoddability of a card?
I wouldn't even buy it if you were talking about a hardmod.

Hm I agree with n4d444 cause every HD2/3/4xxx card I tested could be softmodded, even a non standard Mobility HD2700 GPU on a special Fujitsu Siemens graphics board worked without any problems..

But maybe gurusan can explain where he got his information from?
