hey guys/gals i recently scored a supercheap Dell Vostro 1710 with a whopping 1920x1200 screen (65euro if anyone might wonder) im loving it... has a Nvidia 8600GS runs alot of older games even native res some other example Street Fighter X Tekken runs 45fps avg on 1280x800 even the Tombraider Reboot benchmark still churns out 15fps avg i already installed every single Tombraider series that exist on it, cuz i want to suprise my GF with it... total Lara freak but never play a single game hahah many of them run absolutely flawless... Furthermore i installed COD1&2 the MW1&2 still run very decent Halflife 2 runs on max 1920x1200 what a GEM perfect optimisation what other great looking games could i try to run??? keep in mind it has XP so Streetfight V i couldnt launch many game i know that would can’t be started like Guns&Canoli etc. also the videocard has a ShaderModel2 limit so there’s always more game that don’t run would love to see a list of games that I should replay or my GF
agreed with ME 123 thief not sure she’ll like it but i might check just 2c how it runs BC2 already installed it’s playable but not that optimized since she’s a fan of shooters guess MOH is good to try indeed keep the idea’s flowing...
Return to castle Wolfenstein Various Star Wars games. I played only Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and it was quite fan. Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas (1 and 2) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell series Sniper: Art of Victory and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 1
thnx for the tips... I can confirm MOH runs but on low and 1280x800 so its unoptimised POS MOH Airborn doesnt start Sniper Elite V2 doesn't start... SW Battlefront 2 doesn't start I think i need older games got the feeling your latest list isn't XP compatible and perhaps 9xxx series mobile needed due to shadermodel 3.0
Oh I forget to mention Wolfenstein runs great on medium 1280x800 sniper elite v1 + sw unleashed still downloading!
I remember playing Gears of War on my notebook with 9600GT, should work for you too. Story of Jedi: Outcast, Jedi: Academy was good too. As far as shadermodel goes, try 3D-Analyze to remove shader code from being handed over for rendering. Visual results may be unexpected, but at least games will work.
I did not mention Sniper Elite. I prefer first person games so Sniper: Ghost Warrior was better for me. https://store.steampowered.com/app/13540/Tom_Clancys_Rainbow_Six_Vegas/ - WinXP https://store.steampowered.com/app/15120/Tom_Clancys_Rainbow_Six_Vegas_2/ - WinXP/Vista https://store.steampowered.com/app/34830/Sniper_Ghost_Warrior/ - WinXP(SP3)/Vista(SP1)/Win7 https://store.steampowered.com/app/13560/Tom_Clancys_Splinter_Cell/ - Win2k/WinXP https://store.steampowered.com/app/13570/Tom_Clancys_Splinter_Cell_Chaos_Theory/ - Win2k/WinXP https://store.steampowered.com/app/13580/Tom_Clancys_Splinter_Cell_Double_Agent/ - WinXP https://store.steampowered.com/app/33229/Tom_Clancys_Splinter_Cell_Conviction_Deluxe_Edition/ - WinXP https://store.steampowered.com/app/32430/STAR_WARS__The_Force_Unleashed_Ultimate_Sith_Edition/ - WinXP(SP3)/Vista(SP2)/Win7 https://store.steampowered.com/app/32500/STAR_WARS_The_Force_Unleashed_II/ - WinXP(SP3)/Vista(SP2)/Win7
hmmm i might try that trick... cuz Gears Of War didn't start also and i'm should it should handle on low for example!
ok thnx wel that covers the XP thing, but where could i see the shadermodel requirements, any idea? (oops I thought Elite V1 was the first my bad!)
ok great thnx i don't use steam, cuz that laptop cannot handle the extra load... so i'm buying them secondhand the CD or DVD and then install a NO-patch but i'll have a look at the list nonetheless

I saw many old games at https://www.gog.com For example shooters https://www.gog.com/games/shooter?sort=popularity&page=1 shooters with date of release between 2000 and 2009 https://www.gog.com/games/shooter?release=2000_2004,2005_2009&sort=popularity&page=1
new info: SW Force Unleased 1 ran like utter crap on 1280x800 just because there are no friggin graphic options and Vsync is forced (it didn't help to disable via controlpanel btw)
Totally forget about COJ omg she's gonna love that, hope it runs ok! yeah DOOM3 totally need that Crysis nah dont wanna blow up my lappie hahah FEAR yeah installed runs awesome high res + settings !! Max Payne not a bad suggestion! the rest i don't see running smooth and or her prefference hehe
Oh crap i just noticed another problem COJ is Dx10 or higher so eventhough XP has dx10 installed not sure if it's backwards compatible with Dx9 cards or is DX taking care of the conversion??
WinXP officially supports only DirectX until v9. I heard of a way to get DirectX 10 support, but it seems to be "implemented" very lousy and the source is not officially MS. See here for info and download: Code: https://www.raymond.cc/blog/easily-install-and-download-directx-10-for-windows-xp/ DirectX10 is available officially only for OS Vista and newer. (XP = v9 / Vista = v10 / 7 = v11 / 8 and 8.1 = v11.1 / 10 = v12) If you need games for XP I would direct you to GOG.com, because they publish A LOT of games, mostly for cheap prices and they have very good games from the old times and pack them into an installer together with all required software you would need to run them. DOS games get DOSBOX with them for example. You only install them like any other game and only have to run the shortcut, no config necessary. I would dismiss DX10 support on XP. If needed, use Vista or better 7 (same HW requirements). 7 Ultimate gives you XP mode, otherwise use Virtualbox if you need real OLD stuff to run. Or why do you specifically use XP instead of others? Some game requires 16bit?
