OH NO, lol tune in for part 2 tommorrow when we get to hear all about the testing. When I originally posted earlier I it was more because of his attitude towards the poster that asked him a polite question, and then got an earful of 21yo student arrogance thrown back at him than the RAM debate.

Posting one's student ID with Name into public media isn't exactly the most clever thing to do.

Not completely blanking it out isn't exactly the most clever thing to do. Actually I took it off because some of the numbers of the id were missing. Dunno was tired. Go on. And okay I wont post the full thing :p

    cefurkan,

Nvidia promised to fix the now well known bug (which is an overflow of
avaiable VRAM, depending on resolution/[very] high settings) with an
September driver release for the 8800s; regardless of built-in VRAM (320/640/768MB)

As of yet, (October; 165.75 Beta out) the bug seems to be fixed for
*some* applications, but still is present for others. Since I am playing
Armed Assault (ArmA) by Bohemia Interactive Studios (BIS) a lot, and
the bug gets exhibited by this game in form of an nasty crash, caused by too high
settings, the lesson learned with 8800s by Nvidia + numberous driver releases
    is in an nutshell:

It can only be avoided by lowering settings; there is no fix(yet).
The bug is present in XP SP2 and Vista as well.

If you are interested in how the bug surfaces in ArmA in detail, please refer
to following links and especially check thread on pg.2, '8007000e Error in Vista'
    http://tinyurl.com/2d4t98
    -

ArmA is an game, which uses an streaming terrain engine where you can
set up view ranges up to 10000m. (Another 'fog' bug on DX10 cards
prevents this from beeing useful;..also NOT fixed)

Depending on your resolution/settings, ArmA can *easily* gobble up
VidMem in excess of 1,5GB! That means, even an 8800GTX/768MB is
filled up and then some (swapping)
    -

    During the discussion about that crashing bug (no slow-down here;
outright crash) one of the developers (Suma) points out, that with DX10 cards from
Nvidia (I dont know about Ati cards) which are said 8800s, the memory
management has significantly changed compared to the former generation
    DX9 cards.
I'll try to compress: With ArmA and an 8800, you *should* be able to run
with high to very high settings, great viewdistance and still get decent FPS.
Note, I did not say 'maximum' (no current generation card is able to take that
    with this game)
Still with past and current set of drivers, one absolutely has to find the
'sweet spot' of settings, where ArmA does look great, with playable/good
FPS and most important, does not crash! RivaTuner or Video Memory Watcher
are very helpful to find that sweet spot.
    -
The game had various patches up until now and has seen very many
Nvidia driver releases (XP and Vista) and the crashing bug
(slow-down/Alt-Tab situtation for other games) was not fixed as of yet.
The devs implemented an function to manually 'flush' VRAM during the game
(to prevent the overflow and then crash) but state, that from their side,
they are unable to fix it once and for all, due to DX api memory allocation
issues (and the lack of complete control over texture memory usage).
    -
Nvidia acknowledged and 'identified' the issues with their 8800s line of cards
and promised to fix it by driver release in September[was: July].

Personally I think, it will be very, very interesting to observe, if the newly
announced 8800GTs due in November will exhibit the very same bug as their
former siblings, while using the *same version* of driver on both cards...
because this would be an telltale sign of broken memory management in
    first generation [Nvidia] DX10 cards.

    What do you think?

Edit: Fully agree with Cybercats post.

There are no courses on here relevant to the subject that give you the scope to even talk about what you're trying to explain.

u are telling complety same as what i say

but igonrants about this issue still claims that there is no bug like this and this is about game memory usage

i just tried stalker with 6600gt

memory usage never passes over 150 mb total and refreshed in every 1 second

dropped 96 mb usage then 128 then 150 then refreshed again

at same setting with 8800gts it uses 450 mb but never refrehses lol

the print screen doest work at stalker so i will show proff with company of heroes game
