I would love to hear an explanation as to how Dirt 2 isn't a "real" DX11 game. Because I'm pretty sure anyone who says that it isn't a "real" DX11 game has no idea how DirectX works and what it's role is in a video game engine.

Of course seen from a different viewpoint the game (EDIT: Game engine) is a bit of a hybrid (DirectX 9 to 11) and if it focuses more on X360 and PS3 then DX9 will be the main "path" or how to describe it although to be fair you can't just port the shaders up to newer DirectX versions.
(They're rewritten to take advantage of the SM 4.0 and SM 5.0 features and other DX 10 and DX 11 benefits albeit the actual visual difference might be minor unless they add extras like geometry shader support - used for shadows as a optional command in Crysis and Warhead - or take advantage of HW tessellation albeit the visual difference isn't that big on higher polygon objects though I guess lower LOD settings like distant objects can benefit a lot from these along with true "depth" on objects like beach rocks instead of the "fake" parallax-occlussion shader technology plus HDR texture compression can perhaps be used to improve performance, especially if they use a form of global illumination technique as that's normally quite demanding as demonstrated by the X-Ray engine in Stalker.)

That said even if you optimize for both DX 9 and DX 10 it doesn't mean the end result will be all that significant (Devil May Cry 4 DX9 to DX10 or Far Cry 2/ Avatar or Assassins Creed or even stuff like Gears of War where it's only used to allow proper AA with the deferred renderer engine, Clear Sky makes a good point as well allowing most of the new functionality under a extended DX9 mode with a few extras under DX10 like again AA and some optimizations.) though the stricter standards and streamlining (And rewrite of it.) would probably make DX 10 easier to program and optimize for.

EDIT: I might just be optimistic though, for DX11 to truly take off there must be a good base for it (Meaning it will need sell of course with the additional costs to implement the technology and things like that.), currently XP is still a strong OS in terms of market share albeit Windows 7 has proven quite a good operative system (Vista is fine now as well but has a negative image over it.) and even larger is that most titles focus on console with PS 3 using a sort of OpenGL renderer and X360 using DirectX 9, later consoles whenever they arrive might really push DirectX 11 into gear (Or whatever is out by then, currently there's no real plans due to all money spent in projects like Natal and so on for current-gen consoles I'd imagine.)

Did you not see the gameplay they showed for it at E3 on the 360. The game looked boring as hell and got some really bad reviews from what people saw.
